Republican Officials Have No One to Blame But Themselves for The Trump Indictments

After January 6th, the Republican view was that Donald Trump, who only had a few weeks left in power, should not be impeached, censured, or removed (by invoking the 25th Amendment). They believed since his time in office was about to expire that those weren’t the options for seeking Justice in the matter.

Democrats in the House quickly voted to Impeach the still sitting President. However, Mitch McConnell delayed the Senate trial long enough that Trump was now out of office.

At this point, McConnell could now claim “We have no power to convict and disqualify a former officeholder who is now a private citizen,”

The Senator from Kentucky then went on to say about impeachment that it was “never meant to be the final forum for American justice”

It seemed as if the Republicans wanted no part in being the body that would punish Trump. So the plan was to kick the can down the road to the Justice System.

Senator McConnell said as much. “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation,” he continued. “And former presidents are not immune from being accountable by either one.”

In recent months the Senator has been tight-lipped on the topic. At the time he was very vocal about Former President Trump’s culpability in the matter.

“There’s no question — none — that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day,” McConnell said. “The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president. And having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on Planet Earth.”

Yet here we are, Trump, appearing before a Federal Judge after a grand jury of his peers voted to indict him for his criminal endeavors on and around January 6th. The GOP and their supporters claim Trump is being wrongly prosecuted.

Once again Republicans want to move the goalposts. They are so caught up in their lies and hypocrisy that they don’t even remember the Justice Department indicting Trump for January 6th was at one time their narrative.

A CNN poll today revealed that 69% of Republicans and right-leaning independents still believe that Joe Biden was not the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential election.

More proof that the right’s continued efforts to lie to their constituents is what is dividing this country. Not the legal system that was built to enforce the rule of law.

It’s time to look into the mirror Republican Officials. Democrats have had no say in this matter. The GOP has prompted it all from the original election fabrications until today when Trump appears in court to answer for his crimes against our Nation.
