Leading up to the removal of Title 42 a Trump Administration policy created as a “public health measure”. The media and Republican officials were sounding the alarm, that removal of the Trump Policy would result in apocalyptic chaos at the U.S. southern border. It was the one talking point that Republicans could use to manufacture fear and outrage towards the Biden Administration. It was not only echoed by Conservative media outlets such as Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax. Even more traditional media such as CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS were stoking speculation of an impending crisis.
Title 42 was implemented in the early stages of the Covid pandemic. The Biden Administration had tried to remove the policy, but pending litigation kept it in place. All the while, record numbers of migrants were flocking to the Southern Border.
Although Republicans were blaming the record numbers of immigrants on Biden’s policies. The root cause of the fluctuations was actually a Trump policy. The Trump team decided that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services would close all its international offices. A short-sided move that made the U.S. southern border the place where legal asylum seekers could apply for the asylum program. People who could once apply in their own country or neighboring countries were now forced to make the perilous trek to the U.S. border.
Title 42 was finally removed in May of this year. Allowing the Biden Administration to implement its full policies for the first time. In sharp contrast to Republican predictions, border crossings dropped sharply. Yet so has the constant coverage of the border situation. Understandably, conservative media outlets would not cover the success of the Biden policies. My question is, Where are the more reputable media outlets’ coverage? It’s still nonexistent. To this day, if you Google Biden’s border policies. You will still be directed to pre-May articles condemning Biden and his border situation. That we all now know was the result of the previous administration’s decisions.
According to the latest data available from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released “operational statistics for June 2023, which show a significant and continuing decline in migrant encounters along the Southwest border as well as successful drug interdiction efforts resulting from new enforcement initiatives. CBP’s total encounters along the Southwest border in June were the lowest in over two years, dropping nearly a third from May.
“Our sustained efforts to enforce consequences under our longstanding Title 8 authorities, combined with expanding access to lawful pathways and processes, have driven the number of migrant encounters along the Southwest border to their lowest levels in more than two years. We will remain vigilant,” said Troy A. Miller, CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner.“As our June statistics show, CBP’s mission is vast, and thanks to the dedication of our personnel and Federal partners, we are delivering results that keep the American people safe: ensuring border security, seizing drugs, stopping the flow of illicit weapons, rescuing people in distress, facilitating lawful travel and trade, and stopping the entry of harmful agricultural pests.”

Still, Republicans boast about Biden’s “border crisis” and a large portion of the nation still believes this false narrative. Without any press coverage of the drastic turnaround at the border. Conservatives won’t be held accountable for their outdated rhetoric. The current border stability, a feat that should be celebrated, is still the leading attack on the Democratic Party as a whole.
Even with border security trending upward, there is still a need for comprehensive immigration reform Legislation. Which neither party has been willing to sign into law.
This upcoming Presidential campaign will be wall-to-wall coverage of rhetoric coming from Republicans. Mostly how Biden has failed at border security. It’s up to the media to inform the voting public of the facts. The “kryptonite” of the current GOP and its MAGA base.
