In the latest example of Conservative hypocrisy. The Oscar-winning movie, “The Blind Side“ starring Sandra Bullock. Is a feel-good story of a wealthy Republican family, (the Tuohys) who take in a poor, abandoned teenage boy who is a gentle giant. The movie is based on the life of Michael Oher, a former NFL player. Bullock’s character, Leigh Anne Tuohy a conservative die-hard football booster who sees potential in the shy impoverished Oher. An athletically gifted boy with a heart of gold. The Tuohys, introduce Michael to football where he excels. The family of four ultimately adopts the boy. Who, has been neglected by his drug-addicted mother.
Well, it has come to light, by the NFL retiree Oher. That the feel-good story of his life may have been based on a lie. It turns out that the Tuohys never actually adopted Michael Oher. What he was told was adoption paperwork. Turned out to be a conservatorship agreement. This granted the Tuohy parents the legal authority to make bussiness decision on Oher’s behalf.
The conservatorship granted the Tuohy family, the power to make millions in royalties. The movie earned more than 300 million dollars. Even the Tuohy children profited from the film. While Oher made no money from his story. According to the court records the four Touhys made $225,000 each along with 2.5% of net proceeds.
If the football star had been adopted as he thought. He would also have shared in the family’s movie deal and retained the right to handle his own financial affairs. Michael was a legal adult at the time of the conservatorship.
Other, who wrote the book “I Beat the Odds” that the movie was based upon. Said “They explained to me that it means pretty much the exact same thing as ‘adoptive parents,’ but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account,”
Michael Oher’s agent Debra Branan a lawyer who is close friends with the Tuohy family. Was the same lawyer who drew up the conservatorship.
The Tuohys deny their shady actions and falsely claim they shared the movie profits with Oher, in the book they wrote.
Oher’s relationship with the Tuohy family has increasingly deteriorated. Since the movie portrayed Oher as unintelligent. A part of the storyline that was fabricated.
The Tuohy’s, who are Conservative Republicans are just the latest example. Of a party that continually exploits the disenfranchised for their financial gains.
What was fed to the masses, was a heart-warming story of a young impoverished black boy. Who was “saved” by wealthy white Republicans. While the truth is a bright young athletic boy dealing with horrific circumstances. Was taken advantage of under a veil of charity. By self-serving football boosters who saw an opportunity to better themselves. All while portraying their greed as the ultimate act of kindness. The feel-good blockbuster was such a huge success. It deserves a present-day reboot. However, this one will be a horror film based on a true story.
