This morning on CNN’s “State of the Union with Jake Tapper”. Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley refused to hold former Coach Tommy Tuberville accountable for holding the Military and its families hostage regarding rank promotions.
Haley correctly described the situation of using the Military members who are scheduled to rise through the ranks and their families as “pawns”. But directed the blame at the Department of Defense and the Military’s policies. Instead of Tuberville, who has created this mess by politicizing the Military. Coach Tuberville is the first Senator in the history of the United States of America to create such a threat to national security. By refusing to allow the Senate to green-light Military promotions. Current estimates have the number of empty positions, due to Tuberville’s political selfishness, closing in on 600.
For Haley to blame the Department of Defense and Military policies is shameful and cowardly. Haley has had some recent appeal to independents, after her debate performance. However, this reminds us that she is just another Republican who is scared of her party’s extremists. So she refuses to speak out against clear wrongdoing by her right-wing comrades. Just another in the long list of Republicans who continue to put party over country. Trading their morals for primary votes. From people too incompetent to realize the harm that this is causing to our country. Or the twisted anti-patriots who know the consequences but refuse to care.
Between the Military ranks hostage situation and the GOP’s addiction to criminal defendant Donald Trump. You can not trust members of the Republican Party to do what is necessary for our Democracy to survive. Which is truly frightening when they make up half of the political parties in contention for office.
At one time Republicans would stand up against those in their party that were corrupt or a danger to national security. Those honorable men and women who stood up for what is right for the country and its citizens. Back then they knew that some backlash was warranted because history would look fondly at their sacrifice. Those days are clearly over. The current list of Republicans in office who will stand up for what’s right could fit on a post-it note. This makes you wonder if the Republican Party has completely sold its soul to the domestic terrorist MAGA movement. Or they could just care less because they foresee history never getting the chance to condemn them at all. As they will preemptively ban any books that tell America’s true story to the next generation.
