Thanks to Joe Manchin And The Republicans The Child Poverty Rate Doubled!!!

Recent data released shows that the child poverty rate has more than doubled from 5.2% to 12.4% in one year from 2021 to 2022. It coincided with the expiration of the Child Tax Credit. A Democratic policy that was a portion of The American Rescue Plan which sent $300 monthly checks per child to eligible families. The Biden Administration’s initiative brought the child poverty rate to a record low of 5.2%.

However, “Democratic” West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin joined Republicans in voting against an extension of the successful Child Tax Credit. Which ultimately caused the plan to expire in 2022. Manchin said he was joining the Republicans in rejecting the extension because some parents would use the money on drugs instead of their children sources said. However, the data collected showed most families including those in Manchin’s state used the credit towards food, rent, and other essentials.

When asked for comment, President Joe Biden said, “Today’s Census report shows the dire consequences of congressional Republicans’ refusal to extend the enhanced Child Tax Credit, even as they advance costly corporate tax cuts,” Biden said. “We cut child poverty by nearly half to record lows for all children in this nation largely by expanding the Child Tax Credit. Last year, Congressional Republicans insisted on raising taxes on families with children. The rise reported today in child poverty is no accident—it is the result of a deliberate policy choice congressional Republicans made to block help for families with children while advancing massive tax cuts for the wealthiest and largest corporations.”

Once again, Republicans have made it clear, that their legislative focus remains on assisting only the wealthiest Americans and corporations. While they deprive the lower and middle class of any financial relief. They claim their anti-abortion policies are to protect children. When in reality, it’s to control the reproductive rights of women. If they truly cared for children’s welfare they would not have stripped away a successful program specifically designed to keep kids above the poverty line.

Biden’s comments spared Sen. Manchin the embarrassment of being lumped with Republicans who cut this financial lifeline to millions of at-risk youth. Manchin has long been considered a “stick in the spokes” to Democrats and their quest to implement popular legislative policies. His decision to vote with Republicans against the extension of the Child Tax Credit was the deciding vote that killed its passage.

Most of the legislation designed by Democrats has been intended to grow the country from the middle out by assisting the low and middle classes. With such programs as universal childcare, relief from student loan debt, and cutting the costs of prescription drug prices. All these initiatives are popular, with constituents, from both sides of the aisle. It’s what the Biden administration is calling “Bidenomics”. Yet time and time again Republicans fight these policies to ensure that the poor and middle-class continue to struggle with no relief in sight from Conservatives. The GOP also demands that the entire country’s financial burden be financed by the lower and middle class alone. Any Republican-led tax cut has rewarded the wealthiest families and corporations making record profits. Republican officials actually prefer to cut necessary programs that millions of Americans rely on, just so they don’t ask corporations to pay the same percentage in taxes that the rest of us pay. It’s a ridiculous approach that has created a huge national deficit.

Conservatives would have you think that Democratic policies if implemented, would add to the astronomical debt. If Republicans hadn’t slashed taxes on the wealthy we wouldn’t be in this predicament in the first place. It’s never been a question of how much is going out to fund the nation. The issue is what tax money is coming in. The top-down Republican vision has just created an insurmountable wealth gap and destroyed the middle class. However, Republicans point to the lower classes as a burden on the system. A system financed by the same lower classes Republicans direct their blame. Conservative hypocrisy at its finest.

For any red-blooded, God-fearing American who doesn’t have the wealth of the top 1% of Americans, voting Republican is foolish. You are being hoodwinked by the Right Wing’s divisive social agenda. The GOP feeds off of your fears and beliefs to enlist outrage at others who struggle with the same financial burdens as you and your family. They weaponize our differences as people to create a distraction from their lack of legislative success. Sadly, most of the Republican base is unaware that they are being used as pawns. But those who relish in the hate, directed at fellow Americans, are just as complicit as the soulless bigots who created the social division within our country.

If We The People want to live together in a country that supports those struggling the most and rewards those working the hardest. We must elect those who uphold their oath to the Constitution and create opportunities for all Americans equally. We must stop those whose allegiance is to their friends and corporate donors only. Sadly only one of the two political parties can honestly say that is their intention. Republicans have no current political agenda aimed at lifting the country as a whole. Nor does Senator Manchin who might possibly run as a third-party candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election. So it should come as no surprise that a large portion of his mega-donors are Republicans. Who are convinced Donald Trump alone can’t beat President Joe Biden heads up in an election. So by backing Manchin, the human stick in the spokes of democracy. They allow him to do what he does best, screw Democrats and the American public.
