(CNN) “Former President Donald Trump argued, falsely, that US taxpayer dollars went to Iran and were funneled to Hamas. He also, with characteristic over-the-top rhetoric, argued his administration “brought so much peace to the Middle East.” And during a campaign appearance in New Hampshire, he tried to compare the violent attacks on Israel with the flow of asylum-seeking migrants at the US border with Mexico – although there is clearly no comparison between asylum-seekers and terrorists killing hundreds.

Sen. Tim Scott, the Republican from South Carolina, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Monday night that the Biden administration was “complicit” in the attack on Israel because of the same Iranian funds criticized by Trump.
While most of the Republican presidential candidates focused on Biden with their criticisms, former Vice President Mike Pence argued this is a wake-up call for Republicans like Trump who have been moving the party toward a more isolationist worldview – not only with regard to Israel, but also to Ukraine.
“That’s the debate here,” Pence said Sunday on CNN. “Whether we’re going to shrink from our role as leader of the free world, or whether we’re going to lean in in this moment in Israel, and also in eastern Europe. … We’re going to stand strong with our allies and stand up to our enemies.””
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Republicans are using the horrific attacks on Israel to spread misinformation and appalling rhetoric. However, it should disgust everyone who knows that what they are saying is a clear fabrication just to get their voting base enraged.

Donald Trump, who ripped up the Iran Nuclear Agreement that President Barack Obama’s administration signed. Allowed Iran to build a nuclear program without any restrictions. The deal Trump backed out of would’ve kept Iran from having the capability of developing nuclear weapons. The only cost of keeping Iran under the watchful eyes of the United Nations and the United States was to lift some of the sanctions previously imposed by the U.S.
The same goes for President Biden’s decision to rescue American hostages from Iran. To falsely claim that the Biden Administration paid 6 billion dollars of taxpayers’ money to have those hostages released is another example of how Republicans continue to lie to their supporters. Lifting sanctions on Iran’s money with humanitarian-only stipulations is a far cry from what the GOP has accused Biden of. Claiming that is what funded the barbarism in Israel is nauseating. Considering that Iran has not been able to touch their money because the U.S. treasury and the government of Qatar have complete control over where those funds will go and have decided that Iran will not receive them.

So for Trump and the Republicans to be complicit in arming Iran with nuclear weapons and refusing to negotiate for American hostages detained abroad. It would be laughable the hypocrisy if it wasn’t so dangerous. Trump has taken this moment to trash Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and comment that Hezbollah a terrorist organization is “very smart”.
Luckily one of Trump’s failed attempts while he was in office was to dismantle the NATO alliance. Putin was relying on Trump to win a second term so he could easily invade Ukraine. Instead, President Biden’s win was able to mend the relationships that Trump had wrecked with our allies and unified NATO. Allowing Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and democracy in a war that was supposed to be over in 3 days.

Trump and Republicans are complicit in empowering Russia by depriving Ukraine of funding from the American government. If Trump and his GOP colleagues were truly interested in making America great again. Then they should support America’s efforts to build peace around the world through military intervention when necessary.
That is why before the invasion of Iraq, The United States was admired across the globe because countries knew we would always lend support to nations in crisis. While keeping the bad actors that threaten peace in line by leading a military force intended to protect democracy everywhere.

Since Trump’s ultimate goal is to erode democracy his actions speak louder than his words. Any Republicans who join Trump in condemning President Biden’s actions should think of the consequences that their lies will have on the erosion of our democracy. Once a bipartisan belief has become a partisan issue that Republicans now see as a roadblock to political power.
It’s sickening that Republicans still support Trump’s vision for the U.S. because at its core it is so un-American. The political division that Israel has been facing is a major reason why they were so caught off guard by the Hamas attacks. If any lessons can be learned from this tragedy maybe Republicans should take this opportunity to stop lying to their constituents for political gain. All it creates is further division among the population which will ultimately lead to countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea using it to their advantage. Which could not only lead to the destruction of our democracy from within but also endanger our national security from our enemies looking to capitalize on our worsening political divide.
