Tom Emmer Calls Trump For Approval, When Will House Republicans Lean On The Democrats For Support?

(CNN)- “House Majority Whip Tom Emmer spoke with former President Donald Trump by phone over the weekend, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN, as the Minnesota Republican works to win over his right flank in order to secure the speakership.

Some in Trump’s orbit have been openly critical of Emmer, in part because he voted to certify the 2020 election. It’s unclear if Trump will get involved this time around or if he will choose to stay neutral after his endorsed speaker candidate, Rep. Jim Jordan, came up short.”

Tom Emmer Has Been Forced To Beg For Trump’s Approval

It appears that Tom Emmer is a man who should be applauded for doing his constitutional duty when he certified the 2020 Presidential Election. However, he has been shamed enough by Republican constituents for not substantiating Donald Trump’s attempt to steal the 2020 election. That he was forced to call Trump asking for his approval in his run for the Speaker of the House position.

The nine candidates running for speaker include House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Mich., Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas., Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., and Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Ala.

7 of 9 Nominees For Speaker Voted Against Certification of The 2020 Election

All of them voted against the certification of the 2020 Presidential Election besides Emmer and Austin Scott of Georgia. It just goes to show how the Republican Party is still bowing to Trump and the MAGA establishment. If they stand a chance in their bid to win the Speakership. Protection of the Constitution was once a baseline for the 2nd in line to the Presidency. Is now considered a political flaw that the MAGA base may disqualify a nominee for.

With the current rules, ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave in to secure the position after 15 rounds of voting. The MAGA minority of the Republican House can continue to wreak havoc on the governing body. Until those rules that McCarthy sold his political soul for are repealed. Men like Tom Emmer and Austin Scott will be forced to beg for forgiveness from Trump and his sycophants in the House.

You Can’t Negotiate With MAGA House Republicans Who Want To Watch The World Burn Down

Maybe it’s time for Democrats to lend a helping hand to a stand-up Republican like Emmer for the good of the country. Otherwise, you will allow the MAGA House members to force their will on Emmer holding his nomination hostage for their political gain. If Democrats can spare Emmer from the mistakes McCarthy made, just maybe they can take back the power McCarthy gave to the MAGA portion of the House Republicans. Creating a stable bipartisan infrastructure to the House rules.

In no way is the current situation the House of Representatives finds themselves the fault of the Democrats. This was a self-inflicted disaster caused by Kevin McCarthy when he negotiated his job security with the MAGA House terrorists that blew up the Speakership with one vote. But until Republicans realize that they can’t negotiate with terrorists even in their party and decide to reach out across the aisle for Democratic support. This chaos will just continue to plague the House Republicans who have brought the government to an unprecedented standstill. Just as every other vote in a split government needs bipartisan support so too does this lengthy situation. If Emmer and moderate Republicans are waiting for the support of Trump and the House Republicans who refuse to do the work they were elected to do. This drama will just continue to impede the House from doing the people’s business. The time has come to make an offering across the aisle to Democrats who want nothing more than to get the job done.
