Dean Phillips has announced that he will be running against Incumbent President Joe Biden in the Democratic Party’s primary race. Phillips a congressman from Minnesota has complimented President Biden for his historic record of legislative accomplishments. While Phillips believes that Biden has been a generational success as President he has only one stated reason he has challenged the Democrat for his job, his age.
It’s not the first time that Phillips has had an issue with the age of some older men and women in government positions. According to an article in The New Republic “For the last 15 months, Phillips has been campaigning for “prominent young Democrats” to challenge the 80-year-old president, reported The Atlantic, believing it’s time for Biden, who he has described as a “president of great competence and success,” to “pass the torch.” Failing to find that candidate, the 54-year-old Phillips has apparently decided to throw himself into the race.”
During Congressman Phillips’s campaign for office back in 2018. One of his major political priorities was to remove Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House. He claimed Pelosi was too old for the position and wanted to replace her in favor of a younger Democrat.
Phillips even wrote an opinion column for The Daily Beast where he compared the late Senator Dianne Feinstein’s decision to stay in office through her battle with shingles to habitual liar George Santos stating “Sen. Feinstein risks tarnishing her remarkable legacy and the sacred oath she took as a United States senator. But this is about more than one individual—it’s about an institution that too often fails to place the people we serve over the politics of parties. Corrupt crooks like Rep. George Santos (R-NY)—whose lies and corruption have brought shame to the People’s House—should be expelled from the institution.”
This fascination with older people in public office seems to be personal to Phillips. The 54-year-old multimillionaire and former chairman and co-owner of Talenti Gelato is the heir to one of America’s largest liquor dynasties. For age to be the only reason Phillips has thrown his hat into the Democratic Presidential race makes you wonder if there may be some other reason why he would possibly harm the Biden campaign and could help elect Donald Trump.
Harlan Crow the conservative Billionaire that has been the focus of a ProPublica investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and their financial dealings has donated money to the Phillips campaign. Andrew Yang a former Democrat who founded a third political party with Republicans called the “Forward Party” has also been a vocal supporter of the Phillips campaign. It makes you question whether Dean Philips’ anti-elderly fetish is truly the only political grievance behind his decision to challenge Biden.
Like other third-party candidates running for the Presidency if you follow the money you will see who the real beneficiary of their presence in the race is, Donald Trump. When staunch Trump backers continue to finance all of the non-Biden candidates it should paint a clear picture that those candidates are being used as pawns to undermine Biden’s campaign in favor of Trump. So maybe it’s time for Dean Phillips to get over his war against old people because democracy is the only issue of consequence in this Presidential Election. If you aren’t with President Biden and his crusade to protect America from Trump and his fascist ideology then you’re against him and the democracy he has vowed to defend.
Yes, Dean Phillips President Biden is old, but so is his only serious rival in this Presidential race, Donald Trump. In fact, there is only a 3-year difference between the two candidates. Is Phillips willing to give Donald Trump and his campaign the necessary tools that will hamper Biden’s candidacy? Solely because of his personal beliefs and not for the benefit of our democracy. Maybe it’s time for Dean Phillips to learn something from President Biden’s lifetime of wisdom and grow the fuck up!
