(CNN) — “Elon Musk says he may restore conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, pending the results of an unscientific poll of his followers.
In a post on X Saturday, Musk said he disagreed with Jones’ comments about Sandy Hook but asked, “are we a platform that believes in freedom of speech or are we not?”
“If the people vote him back on, this will be bad for X financially, but principles matter more than money,” Musk said. The poll asking Musk’s followers whether Jones should be reinstated showed Jones’ return winning by a healthy margin as of Saturday afternoon.”
Elon Musk appears ready to reinstate Alex Jones’ X account. The decision comes just a year removed from when Musk publicly declared that he would not allow Jones access to the site because of his sickening behavior surrounding the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
What makes the move even more cowardly, is that Musk has left the ultimate choice, up to his followers. Which is most likely a collection of the most vile deviants that the internet has to offer. Of course, Musk knows that the unhinged conspiracy theorists that he attracts will jump at the opportunity to restore Alex Jones to the cyber cesspool the platform has become. Freeing himself of any accountability when Jones inevitably does something abhorrent.
It’s as if Musk is purposely trying to create an internet WMD or “weapon of mass disinformation”. A place to further radicalize the Right Wing MAGA cult under the guise of “freedom of speech”. Adding Alex Jones to the equation normalizes the heinous behavior that Musk has recently been accused of promoting. What should scare people the most about Musk is that a man of such high intelligence, wealth, and power has consistently shown to have ambitions to create a divide in our society.
NASA alone has given his company Space X the keys to the United States space program. Musk also has had a profound impact on the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian military was once using his satellite-based communications to combat Russia’s destruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure. Then Musk unilaterally pulled the plug on the system leaving Ukraine and the United States Defense Department in a precarious position. At what point will the American government realize that if not kept in check Elon Musk could potentially pose a clear and present threat to democracy and the national security of our country? For as much as Musk’s electric car company, Tesla has done to combat climate change. The bulk of his recent endeavors have the appearance that the richest man on the planet may be intent on watching the world burn.
