SARASOTA, Fla. (USA TODAY) — “As the Sarasota County School Board convened for the final time this year on Tuesday, Bridget Ziegler entered the board chambers facing a rift largely driven by agenda item No. 1: a colleague’s resolution calling for her resignation.
The rising demands for her resignation came amid emerging details of her involvement in a three-way sexual relationship, which became public as a sexual assault investigation into her husband, Christian Ziegler unfolded.
Christian Ziegler also faces mounting pressure from DeSantis and other Republicans to resign his position as Florida GOP chairman. In police documents, the alleged victim and Bridget Ziegler both told police they had a three-way sexual encounter more than a year ago that included the two women and Christian Ziegler.
Activist groups have called Bridget Ziegler’s involvement in a relationship “hypocritical” as Bridget Ziegler has been a vocal advocate for legislation such as the Parental Rights in Education Act, dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by critics. Bridget Ziegler has also posted transphobic content on her social media.”
Let me introduce you to Bridget Ziegler and her husband Christian, just the latest example of how Republican hypocrisy runs rampant throughout the Party. This sanctimonious couple is closely tied to Ron Desantis and his war against Floridians’ right to live an LGBTQ+ lifestyle.
Christian is the Republican Chairman of Florida’s GOP and his wife Bridget was hand-picked by Desantis to sit on two boards. The Saratoga County School Board and the makeshift Disney Board that Desantis created to control the private company’s political agenda. Bridget also co-founded “Mom’s for Liberty”, a Right-Wing organization dedicated to banning books and other things that they consider anti-Christian.
Both were instrumental in the passage of the homophobic legislation nicknamed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. This couple made it their life’s mission to criminalize the mere mention of homosexuality and alternative lifestyles throughout Florida. All the while, they have been involved in their own sexual exploits that they have demonized others for, and or, speaking openly about.
The fact remains that when you run around changing laws to infringe on people’s sexuality and what they do in the privacy of their own homes. You can’t act persecuted when the media uncovers your hypocrisy and calls for your resignation. Yet here we are, with both parties refusing to step down from their ivory tower positions. Still sitting in judgment of others. However, this time, it’s for their sexual preference, and the public’s response to it, and they don’t like it one bit.
How’s the saying go? If you live in glass houses and dictate how your neighbors should act behind closed doors. Don’t be surprised when you pick up a woman to have a threesome with and the neighbors are there to call you out on your hypocrisy, because your house is made of glass dummy. Yeah, that’s the one!
Well, let’s make one thing very clear, no one has a problem with Christian and Bridget’s sexual preferences. Unless of course, the sexual assault allegations are true, then we all should have a big problem with them. But that’s not the point of this discussion. It’s the “holier than thou” and false moral superiority attitudes, that put a huge target on the Ziegler’s back.
When will Republicans learn to stop trying to force their religious beliefs onto others who don’t share the same views? It’s a slippery slope when you point to another group and demand that they be stripped of the same freedoms as you. When you are that consumed with pointing out opposing principles, that aren’t inline with your faith, you might overlook the fact that there are three fingers on your own hand pointing right back at you. It doesn’t take much for the oppressor to suddenly become the oppressed one, does it?
