(NBC News)—“Trump brought up the rioters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 who remain in prison, many who pled guilty or were convicted by a jury and sentenced to serve time behind bars. Trump called them “hostages” and called on Biden to release them from federal prison.
“They ought to release the J6 hostages. They’ve suffered,” Trump said, using the abbreviation for Jan. 6. “I call them hostages. Some people call them prisoners. I call them hostages. Release the J6 hostages Joe. Release them Joe. You can do it real easy, Joe.”
Trump has suggested that if returned to the White House he would pardon those who have been charged in connection with the riot.”
We all know at this point, the only things that matter to Donald Trump are whatever will add to his bottom line and regaining the power of the Presidency. He immediately became addicted to it when in office. Even orchestrating the overthrowing of the government and the will of the people to not relinquish it. Now he’s rewriting history to coerce his followers, that they are the victims of the events of the January 6th insurrection. Labeling those domestic terrorists that he created and sent to do his bidding as political “hostages”.
When the reality is Donald Trump is the head of a criminal enterprise looking to destroy America’s democracy. While those who executed his unconstitutional coup on that infamous day are his accomplices. The only reason they are imprisoned is because they trusted their MAGA leader who lied to them and exploited their loyalty for his selfish purposes.
All the while, U.S. citizens are being held captive around the globe including in the nightmarish conditions in the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists. The Biden Administration, on the other hand, has been working since day one to negotiate the release of American hostages whether it be in Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and Gaza just to name a few locales. President Biden has personally met with all the families of United States citizens captured abroad looked them in the eyes and vowed to do whatever is necessary to ensure their release. To date, he has lived up to his promise and has brought home a large number of citizens being held against their will. While those still captive are at the top of Biden’s priorities.
Yet Trump ignores the suffering of those same families. He boasts about freeing convicted criminals when juries and judges agreed their behavior required imprisonment. Trump has also criticized war heroes who have been captured in the line of duty as “losers” and “suckers”. Including the late Senator John McCain. Trump on multiple occasions has mocked his years of captivity along with his injuries sustained during the Vietnam War.
If that is Trump’s line of thinking, then how does he justify calling those caught for their wrongdoings on January 6th “hostages” not “losers” or “suckers” like he’s labeled P.O.W.s. That’s what happens when you’re a habitual liar and malignant narcissist, you talk yourself into a tangled mess. Exposing your hypocrisy and self-serving behavior when it suits your narrative or agenda. At what point will Republicans admit to themselves that nothing Trump does helps the country and rarely matches up with what he says? So to those January 6th culprits rightfully rotting in prison, if your freedom rests on Trump standing by his word. How did that work for you the last time you believed in him?
