(Newsweek)–“Donald Trump admitted he did receive money from foreign governments such as China while he was president, as his business was providing a “service” for them.
Speaking at a Fox News town hall on Wednesday night, the former president defended himself from accusations made in a recent report from Democrats on the House Oversight Committee which accused him of accepting payments from foreign governments from countries such as China, Saudi Arabia and Qatar while in office.
The report accused Trump of violating the U.S. Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause, which prohibits federal officials from accepting money or gifts from foreign governments without permission from Congress, after overseas officials stayed in his real estate company’s hotels and apartments during his time in the White House.
“If I have a hotel and somebody comes in from China, that’s a small amount of money,” Trump said. “But I was doing services for them, people were staying in these massive hotels, these beautiful hotels—because I have the best hotels and the best clubs, I have great stuff—and they stay there and they pay. I don’t get $8 million for doing nothing,” Trump added.”
The report was released amid House Republicans‘ attempts to impeach President Joe Biden over allegations he benefited from his son Hunter Biden‘s foreign dealings while in office, despite no evidence to back up the claims.
So Donald Trump goes on Fox News for a town hall-style interview in direct competition with CNN’s town hall debate between the two Republican Presidential Candidates who are fighting for first runner-up honors. Trump being in MAGA-friendly territory with an audience stacked with his cult-like followers should’ve been smooth sailing even for the unhinged Authoritarian wannabe. Yet he spent the whole event saying what should’ve been the quiet part out loud.
He doubled down on his one-day dictatorship routine that has become a staple of his appearances. Suggested he would remove the United States from the N.A.T.O. alliance. Also taking full credit for the abortion ban. Women across the Republican States have lost the right to decide their own medical care because of. Just when you thought Trump ran out of feet to put in his mouth, the insane former President admitted to profiting off of foreign governments during his time in office. Which is not only unconstitutional but very illegal. Not to mention the exact criminal infraction that Republicans have been lying to the American public about President Biden committing.
The entire GOP impeachment investigation has been centered around Biden profiting from foreign governments. With zero evidence to support their claims. Now you have Trump on live television confessing to the crime. Just days after House Democrats released a report detailing his transgressions. However, that isn’t even the part that has my blood boiling. The media, not Trump, is the bad guy in this situation. Besides Newsweek, which isn’t known for its groundbreaking journalism, you can’t find this story anywhere on mainstream media. Imagine if it was Biden who revealed he did something similar, they would cut into the Super Bowl with that late-breaking news.
The media has been tripping over each other to report Defense Secretary Austin’s prostate cancer procedure as if it were the Watergate Scandal. But the former Con-Artist and Chief Trump admits to treasonous conduct and not one network finds it more important than “Google is laying off staff who work on some of its most recognizable products”. An actual headline on CNN’s website.
If it wasn’t for independent media like The Meidas Touch Network, Brian Tyler Cohen, or myself (🚨humble brag alert) this Constitutional crisis wouldn’t even be known by the tiny percentage of American voters that we reach. Let alone the masses who should be aware of Trump’s admission of guilt. I don’t know if it scares, disgusts, or enrages me to think of how something of this magnitude can be so easily swept under the rug. I recently said that the media has been complicit in leveling the political playing field when it comes to the narratives pushed for Trump and Biden’s alleged wrongdoing. Looking back, I was foolishly naive for thinking anything the corporate media does in this political climate is remotely close to on the level.
