(Huff Post)–”Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) name-dropped Rihanna as she jokingly applauded Republicans for putting on quite a show at a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday.
The Texas Democrat, at a hearing on immigration, called out GOP lawmakers for not doing the “basic job” they’re supposed to do and cited the looming government shutdown before her reference to the pop star.
“They can’t figure out how to do a budget ’cause we’re six months behind, but somehow, they are going to solve this complex issue of immigration ― I seriously doubt it,” she said.
“And to quote a great known as Ri Ri, also known as Rihanna, how ’bout we give ‘a round of applause, a standing ovation’ because we have absolutely had nothing more than performative politics.”
The House Democrat, earlier in her remarks, pointed to the recent drowning deaths of three migrants ― a woman and two children from Mexico – near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The U.S. Homeland Security Department, on Saturday, accused Texas of blocking federal agents’ access to the Rio Grande as the migrants drowned in the river.”
Everyone’s favorite Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett from Texas has followed up on her verbal whooping of Nancy Mace the other day. With another rousing attack on Republicans, this time focusing on the inhumane treatment of an immigrant Mother and two children. Who needlessly drowned due to Governor Abbott’s reckless disregard for human life. By setting up a blockade that prevented Federal Border Patrol Agents from rescuing the doomed migrants.
Crockett even channeled Ri Ri in her allotted time, dismantling her colleagues across the aisle, regarding their underhanded sabotage of Border negotiations. Rightfully so, as Republicans continue to hold funding for multiple national security issues hostage. The GOP says that the only way they will support critical aid packages is if they get comprehensive immigration reform included in the legislation. Yet when Democrats agreed to tackle the cumbersome process, Republicans have purposefully changed their demands. Thankfully, Jasmine Crockett is calling them out for their hypocrisy on the matter.
Even Republican Senator Mitt Romney agrees that the only reason House Republicans, under the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson. Haven’t gone along with the current proposal, because blocking President Biden from getting the credit, for solving the Border crisis. Is far more important to Republicans than getting the job done. That’s page one stuff in the Right Wing political hypocrisy handbook. The GOP loves to bitch and moan about issues, blaming Democrats for causing them. Then ultimately, when Democrats try and fix the problem, Republicans are either nowhere to be found or outright block any efforts to repair the damage.
The vicious cycle continues because Republicans would much rather have a boogeyman, to point to, in their political campaign advertisements. Just imagine the right-wing horror if Democrats were to take care of America’s problems through common sense legislation. How could Republicans possibly justify their political attacks on Democrats? While maintaining what’s left of their desperate grip on power. Not in Jasmine Crockett’s House!!
