(Independent)—“Newsmax has come under fire after airing a segment in which the channel’s host Carl Higbie and OklahomaGovernor Kevin Stitt discussed a potential “force-on-force” conflict between the South and the Biden Administration.
The right-wing cable channel featured the pair discussing a recent Supreme Court ruling which allowed Border Patrol agents to resume cutting razor wire that Texas installed on the US-Mexico borderto deter migrants from entering the US illegally.
“Let’s say this showdown—I mean, that’s what it is. It’s a showdown. It’s a showdown of power and loyalties and constitutionality. Let’s say [Biden] does that,” the Newsmax host theorised. “How many people say, ‘No. You know what? Screw you, Biden administration.’ And how many people stay and fight with Texas versus the federal things, and does that put us on course for a force-on-force conflict?” he asked Governor Stitt.
Mr Stitt responded, calling the clash between Texas authorities and the federal government a “powder keg of tension.”
He also said Oklahoma would send National Guard troops to Texas to support the efforts of Governor Abbott if the White House were to interfere, and called on other states to do the same.
On Thursday, Donald Trump called upon “all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border.””
Here we go again!! Republicans under the influence of Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott are riling up their base and fellow Republican Governors. To use force against the federal government if it doesn’t bend to their wishes. The main problem with their scenario is that President Biden has the ultimate authority over all United States military forces even state National Guard troops.
Still creating this kind of tension between Republican-led states and the federal government is irresponsible and dangerous. Especially if some bad actors were to purposefully incite violence. It could quickly escalate into a confrontation between National Guard members and Federal Border Patrol Agents. Creating what could easily destabilize into an all-out Civil War something Republicans seem much too excited about.
Even though the Supreme Court’s decision was in favor of the Biden Administration. Regarding who has jurisdiction over the 2+ miles section of border between Mexico and the United States. The highest court, clearly ruled that Governor Abbott is overstepping his constitutional authority and must immediately remove the blockade impeding access for Federal Personnel. But Republicans are once again saying that the law does not apply to them. Falsely claiming that Texas is being “invaded” doesn’t make it true. This is an immigration issue, not a foreign military attempting to conquer Texas. Yet Abbott and his Republican cohorts use that specific language to justify their unconstitutional behavior.
Let’s not forget that these are the same Republicans under the direction of Trump. Who, are intentionally trying to sabotage ongoing bipartisan negotiations over border security and immigration reform. They are constantly blaming Democrats for the lack of progress on immigration policy over the last 30 years. When it’s Republicans, not Democrats who are all talk and no action on the subject.
Republicans have the opportunity, as we speak, to fix the crisis through legislation. Instead, they would rather start a military conflict pitting American soldiers against each other. How is that a solution to anything? The simple answer is it’s not, but as we’ve learned from Trump and his Republican underlings. They would much rather create a violent situation than actually come to a Constitutional resolution. January 6th was their practice run, let’s hope a Civil War at the border isn’t the next step for Republicans. Looking to further divide the American population to the point of no return.
