(The Daily Beast)–According to private correspondence reviewed by The Daily Beast, Gaetz indicated to a friend that his effort to undercut, isolate, and ultimately remove McCarthy was, indeed, payback for the ethics probe. The Daily Beast reviewed these communications, but is not allowed to quote from them for fear that Gaetz would be able to identify the recipient. In fact, the source who provided the communications was so nervous about retribution that The Daily Beast isn’t allowed to say in what form the correspondence took place. Suffice to say, however, it’s clear from the communications that Gaetz’s targeting of McCarthy wasn’t borne out of his concern for reckless Washington spending.
In the communications, Gaetz singled out McCarthy individually for reviving an Ethics Committee probe against him, and he indicated that his animus toward McCarthy was over that investigation. Other Republican congressional sources told The Daily Beast that Gaetz also acknowledged his revenge motive behind closed doors.
For months, Gaetz sniffed at accusations that his efforts were rooted in personal grievances and self-preservation, flipping those criticisms to instead portray himself as a martyr with the courage to stand on principle. He convinced colleagues that they were doing the same, cajoling reluctant allies into enacting his personal vendetta by framing it in public remarks as a larger, conceptual battle about honesty, integrity, and conservative principles.
The probe—which the committee opened in 2021 but quickly tabled in deference to the Justice Department’s investigation—has zeroed in on claims that Gaetz paid to have sex with a minor teenager half his age in 2017, as The Daily Beast reported this week. That allegation is the most sensational among other alleged illegal and unethical acts in the committee’s sights, including public corruption, solicitation of prostitution, habitual use of hard drugs, bribes or impermissible gifts, campaign finance violations, and parading nude photos of sexual partners on the House floor.
I realize this story may be petty, but there’s something about spilled tea regarding Republican-on-Republican infighting that is so much sweeter. Especially when the two parties involved are self-absorbed conceded right-wing blowhards as Matt Gaetz and Kevin McCarthy both are.
Props to The Daily Beast for their reporting. Obtaining concrete evidence that the Republican Party’s version of “Jared from Subway”, Matt Gaetz. The sole reason for the ousting of Speaker McCarthy was due to a personal vendetta and not the “holier than thou” reasoning he had been spreading. Claiming that McCarthy was kowtowing to the will of Democrats. Just because he made a bipartisan decision to keep the federal government from a shutdown. Never quite held water, in truth McCarthy was consistently undermining Democrats at every opportunity he had.
McCarthy blamed Democrats for issues that were clearly caused by the GOP and reneged on every deal he negotiated with the Biden Administration. He always took the stance of the extreme MAGA portion of the Republicans over the more moderate opinion. So for Gaetz, a MAGAT at his core, to use political differences as his motivation, always appeared as a leaky argument. When Democrats chose to collaborate on McCarthy’s ouster for the exact opposite reasoning.
Now that the receipts prove Gaetz had a self-serving ulterior motive. It makes you question why his 7 Republican colleagues were so willing to join him in removing McCarthy from the Speakership. Nancy Mace and others have given their own personal accounts of negative interactions they’ve had with McCarthy. Which led to their distrust of the former Speaker.
McCarthy got exactly what he deserved in the end. I just find it comical that the Democrats did it for purely political purposes and it appears Republicans pulled the trigger on McCarthy for personal gain only. Now that Gaetz, once again, finds himself in an ongoing investigation into his conduct. Like McCarthy, Gaetz will soon find out that when you make a career out of feeding your narcissistic ego at the expense of your country. People are more than happy, to wait in line, just to make sure that their knowledge is essential in bringing you down. Especially when Gaetz’s claim to fame is screwing others, whether it’s Kevin McCarthy or an underage girl. Don’t be surprised when your unethical disturbing actions end up screwing yourself out of a political career. Maybe joining George Santos on the list of former Republican Congressmen. Banished to a career as a Trump-worshipping message boy on “Cameo” will be just the wake-up-call a dirtbag like Gaetz needs.
