(MEDIA MATTERS)– “In his show, Fox host Sean Hannity alone promoted the claim of the single FBI informant no less than 85 times last year, 28 of those segments were monologues, very long monologues, in addition to all the breathless so-called reporting. And this was across all the right-wing media. Hannity had House Oversight Committee Chairman and chief Biden crime family investigator James Comer on as a guest 43 times in 2023. Today, James Comer and Sean Hannity’s favorite informant, the smoking gun for their investigation, was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. He was indicted on two counts of feeding the FBI false information about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
The New York Post, also owned by Rupert Murdoch, like Fox, “Biden: $10 million bribe file, Burisma chief said he was coerced to pay Joe, ‘stupid’ Hunter in bombshell allegations. Joe Biden allegedly paid $5 million by Burisma executive as part of a bribery scheme, according to FBI document.” Now, here’s where it gets interesting. That FBI document was that this confidential informant wrote a form, making his bribery allegation, in fact, it’s part of what he’s being indicted for, since it was a fabrication. But then, in this kind of alleyoop play, right? The Republicans on the Hill know this document exists and they shake it loose to the public. This is Chuck Grassley in July of 2023, “For the better part of a year I’ve been pushing the Justice Department, FBI, to provide details on its handling very significant allegations from a trusted FBI informant, implicating then Vice President Biden in a criminal bribery scheme.” So they know about it, they brow beat the DOJ to shake it loose, as if they’re covering up, and now it turns out the man’s being indicted for fabricating it.”
Not only do House Republicans look completely incompetent and intentionally dishonest over their handling of the untrue President Biden bribery accusations. That ultimately was the basis used to justify their sham impeachment proceedings. As does Fox News personalities, including Sean Hannity and the network’s puppet master Rupert Murdoch. The owner Murdoch also oversees the famed tabloid “The New York Post”. It was those media platforms where the Republicans had free reign to spread their false narrative of impeachable crimes committed by President Biden and his family.
The recently indicted FBI Informant has been charged for allegedly lying about his Biden testimony. Was the Right Wing’s only star “smoking gun witness”. So it should come as no surprise, that the story that he, Fox News, and House Republicans have been telling the American public about for years, has been a lie. Especially when Republicans have produced zero corroborating evidence to support those claims. Yet that has never slowed down the GOP’s propaganda machine Fox News from continuing to spread the slanderous rhetoric.
This just further demonstrates how Republicans and Fox News, never let the truth get in the way of a good political story. Even if it wasn’t that long ago when Fox News paid dearly for similar misinformation and misleading reporting. This time surrounding the 2020 Presidential Election. Echoing Republican’s habitual lies regarding election fraud that never occurred. More specifically around their deplorable behavior detailing fraudulent allegations against Dominion Voting Machines. Claiming they were used to manipulate the votes cast in the election. Which ended up costing the network nearly 800 million dollars in damages paid to Dominion via a lawsuit.
You would think a settlement that costly would create some oversight in how they promote baseless Republican accusations. Instead, neither Fox News nor the GOP have learned anything from their past dishonesty. They continue to push narratives in search of facts when real journalists and honest politicians know the opposite is how you legitimately conduct an investigation.
The amount of division their negligence has inflicted on this country may never be fully understood. They undermine the very integrity of our democracy with each fabricated lie. If lawsuits aren’t the punishment that will curb this type of corrupted reporting. Then what, if anything, is the remedy for this problem going forward? Maybe the FCC should consider implementing an embarrassing “⚠️Propaganda Warning⚠️” on a continuous scroll. Anytime Fox News interviews or discusses Republican members of the government and their talking points. Since their ignorant viewers tend to believe everything they see and hear on Fox News. Then why would they suddenly decide to question something being repeatedly broadcast on their favorite network? Wouldn’t it be hilarious if it was just that easy to fix all the damage they’ve done? At this point, anything’s better than the status quo, so I guess the ball rests solely in your court FCC! The time for accountability is now long overdue.
