(Pew Research Center)—“Nearly two-thirds of the federal judges President Joe Biden has appointed so far are women, and the same share are members of racial or ethnic minority groups, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of statistics from the Federal Judicial Center. No president has ever appointed a slate of judges consisting mostly of women or racial and ethnic minorities.
To put Biden’s judicial appointments into historical context, we examined how his appointed judges to date compare with those of other presidents at the same point in their tenures, going back to Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1950s. This analysis begins with Eisenhower because he was the first president to be sworn in to a first term on the modern inauguration date of Jan. 20.
The 95 women judges Biden had appointed as of Nov. 5 far exceed both the number and share any other president had appointed at the same point in their term. For example, then-President Donald Trump had appointed 36 women judges by the same point four years ago (24% of his total at the time), while then-President Barack Obama had appointed 54 women judges (47% of his total at the time).
The pattern is similar when it comes to judges who are racial or ethnic minorities. Nearly two-thirds of the judges Biden had appointed as of Nov. 5 (96 of 145, or just over 66%) are Black, Hispanic, Asian American or members of another racial or ethnic minority group. That is far more than any other president had appointed at the same point in their tenure. Trump, for instance, had appointed 22 minority judges by the same stage (14% of his total at the time), while Obama had appointed 42 (37% of his total at the time).
Combining gender with race and ethnicity, women who are Black, Hispanic, Asian or part of another racial or ethnic minority group account for 42% of the judges Biden had appointed as of Nov. 5 (61 of 145). They include Biden’s sole appointee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to serve on the nation’s highest court.”

These are statistics that should be garnering more attention from the mainstream media. I’ve seen many interviews of minorities downplaying the Biden Administration’s legislative accomplishments. Saying the President has not done enough to address the actual two-tiered justice system that exists in America. Not the fabricated one that Donald Trump whines about daily. Where wealthy white ex-presidents who commit crimes are being held accountable.
I’m talking about the legal system where the poverty-stricken and minorities are far more vulnerable to prejudicial discrimination. Resulting in arrest, prosecution, and incarceration rates that are unjustifiably inflated. Although there is no magical wand that can prevent this type of behavior from infesting the judicial system. Real concrete changes can be made by appointing judges who come from such backgrounds and have built their legal careers around fighting against such corruption.

This is where President Biden is making lasting progress on a campaign promise that most Americans believe he has ignored. Since judges are lifetime appointments, the effects of Biden’s commitment to level the legal playing field will be felt across the country for decades. It may even be a turning point for the prejudicial court system. Heading towards a future where people facing prosecution can be judged by those from similar economic backgrounds and communities. Humanizing a defendant in the eyes of the justice system can create lasting change and lessen discriminatory practices. That has plagued the courts throughout the history of this nation.
When all is said and done President Biden’s first term has been filled with historic legislation and yet he still faces staunch criticism. Just because you can’t feel the results immediately doesn’t mean they haven’t been made. Sometimes the results of a President’s work only become beneficial in times of need. Say you’re a minority who’s been wrongly accused of a crime and because of a Biden appointee, your case is taken seriously. Through a fair and honest process, your innocence is easily proven.

It’s those harrowing events in our lives where great leadership can have lasting effects. Biden has been consistently committed to improving the situation for hardworking Americans. He has been extremely successful up to this point. Why wouldn’t you give him four more years to further fulfill his promises? Especially when the alternative is Donald Trump. The man responsible for the appointment of Supreme Court Justices who are actively stripping rights away from We The People.
The choice is clear, either four more years of undemocratic right-wing judges infiltrating our judiciary under Trump. Or Biden stacking of the courts with women and minorities protecting our democracy and constitution. Having similar life experiences as those you are tasked with presiding over as judges. Is just the type of progress and lasting change that this country needs to expand on. So vote Biden in November, because you never know when the time may come when someone you love might find themselves on the wrong side of the legal system. By that point will you be hoping and praying that Biden not Trump was the President stocking the Judicial branch.
