(WJAR)—“Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst and other Republicans are trying to stop President Joe Biden from delivering the annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress, currently scheduled for Thursday night at 8 p.m.
The State of the Union is required by the U.S. Constitution. Under Article II, Section 3, Clause 1, the president must periodically “give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”
This is already the latest the State of the Union has been delivered since the 20th Amendment was ratified in 1934, moving up the start of a new Congress and administration to January instead of March. Thursday’s address will be the latest the address will be delivered since the change.
With the exception of Herbert Hoover, every president over the last 100 years has delivered at least some of their addresses live before a joint session of Congress.”
“It is unfathomable that we do not have a national security strategy from the president, nor do we have his budget for the upcoming fiscal year. And because of that, we want to stop him from actually delivering the State of the Union,” Ernst said during an interview with FOX Business.
It’s clear how fragile the house of cards Republicans have built with their fabricated narratives is. If they are so concerned with how President Joe Biden can easily collapse their elaborate misinformation echo chamber. Simply with an unfiltered State of the Union Address to the American public. Without the cover of a built-in Right Wing media propaganda spin, their base may be exposed to the truth of the GOP’s incompetence.
Not having any control over how the President’s speech may be consumed is a problem they often don’t have. Usually, the Republican voters are subjected to the false narrative amplified by Conservative media and MAGA mouthpieces. They live in a world where “alternative facts” is the only language spoken. So President Biden having a direct link to the Republican base is the worst-case scenario for those trafficking in lies.
I’m sure for that portion of the electorate it may be quite a shock to see and hear about the many legislative accomplishments the Democratic Party has made to benefit the country. Learning about a political party that actually cares about policy issues and has common sense solutions to those concerns. Understanding the President is a well-adjusted God-fearing Christian who does everything in his power to protect and defend our democracy. These and other popular ideals may highlight the juxtaposition between Biden and Trump’s political ideology and the values of their respective campaigns. At the detriment of Trump’s usual divisive rhetoric.
To Republican officials, this is their worst nightmare. No one to inject fear-mongering and hate-filled rebuttals as they often rely upon to camouflage their lack of quality job performance. Most years the opposition to the ruling party looks forward to having the other side of the aisle’s political agenda exposed to criticism. But Republicans know if a majority of the population knew exactly what the Biden Administration has achieved they will be pleasantly surprised with his efforts.
All the GOP has done with the little power they have in the House of Representatives is create chaos. Their infighting and corruption have caused this governing body to accomplish nothing but sham impeachment investigations fueled by Russian disinformation. Their inability to do the basics of governance has led to multiple instances of near-total government shutdowns. All due to the Republican’s aversion to working bipartisan to solve the nation’s mounting obstacles. The party that has labeled the immigration situation as a national emergency is the very same Republican Party that sabotaged the border deal. So hearing all of these facts straight from the President’s mouth may be nothing new for most Americans. However, those who have been sheltered in their MAGA bubble could be learning these truths for the first time. That is why Republicans are doing everything possible to keep that from occurring. Truth, maybe taken for granted by most, but it’s the one antidote to the infectious lies spreading throughout the Republican electorate. The GOP now operates with a “If you can’t beat them, silence them!” attitude that exposes just how scared of the President’s successes they are.
