(Meidas Touch Network)–“House Speaker Mike Johnson announced a Republican plan to defund federal law enforcement agencies in a press conference Wednesday. Johnson promised that House Republicans, should they gain a larger majority, would put forth funding cuts for agencies he claimed have been “turned…against the American people.”
“We are going to cut 3% from DOJ, 7% from the ATF, 6% from the FBI, and 10% from the EPA,” Johnson promised, “and that’s just a start.”
House Republicans have actively turned against federal law enforcement ever since the FBI execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago in August, 2022. They are working to cut funding for federal agencies in the wake of Trump’s 91 criminal charges.
The FBI, which Republicans want to defund, plays a major role in combating child sex trafficking. From the FBI budget request for 2024:
“Over a two-week period in 2022, the FBI, along with other Federal, state, and local partners, executed approximately 400 operations. These operations identified and located 84 minor victims of child sex trafficking and child sexual exploitation offenses and located 37 actively missing children. Furthermore, the FBI and its partners located 141 adult victims of human trafficking, and identified or arrested 85 suspects with child sexual exploitation and human trafficking offenses.“
FBI BUDGET REQUEST
Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are fully prepared to defund law enforcement in order to take revenge on the FBI for investigating Donald Trump, at a time when resources to investigate child trafficking and other extraordinary crimes are desperately needed.”
The once self-proclaimed party of “Law and Order” has officially decided to defund Law Enforcement Agencies. Due in part because the current leader of the Republican Party is Donald Trump. A criminal defendant looking for any leverage he can to evade facing legal accountability. For years Right-Wing media and GOP elected officials have falsely labeled Democrats as a party with an agenda to defund Law Enforcement. When it was merely a couple of outliers on the left actually making those unpopular claims. It certainly never was a policy platform of the Democratic Party as a whole.
So with Republican leadership, now fully unified behind this effort to cut funding to the FBI, ATF, DOJ, and EPA. Will Conservative Media be on board with this decision? If so, would they accept any and all potential backlash that will come their way? Let’s assume since Republicans are willingly supporting such drastic measures they will ultimately take credit for their actions. Because they can no longer have it both ways. No more boasting about being “tough on crime” when the Republican Party has intentionally defied the rule of law at every significant opportunity.
The MAGA extremist movement completely enveloped what was once a proud Republican Party. Known for its past admiration of the military, veterans, and policing agencies around the country. Have continued to devolve into a political body undermining the health and well-being of cops, federal agents, soldiers, and vets alike. Never mind all those under the protection of said local, state, and federal entities. Also potentially suffering due to the effects of future funding shortages. When you put all of your faith into Trump’s leadership, you discard all traces of the former party’s traditional values, to coincide with his authoritarian demands.
Let’s hope that the mainstream press will cover this shift in Republican policy. It’s only fair after they allowed the GOP to falsely condemn Democrats, on their airwaves for years. For individuals, not the entire Democratic Party simply discussing the possibility of budgetary cuts to law enforcement. The electorate deserves to know the impact of such measures. Especially those most affected by this “anti-law and order” Republican policy. It’s appalling how long the list of issues facing the nation the GOP has abandoned. Besides stripping women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ citizens of their rights and making sure Donald Trump doesn’t face justice for his crimes. I can’t think of one thing that today’s MAGA Republicans stand for in unison with the American population. Unless you’re an uber-wealthy morally bankrupt white man, a vote cast for a present-day Republican, would have less return on investment, than lighting your ballot on fire would.
