(Meidas Touch Network)–“In a stunning upset in Alabama, Democrat Marilyn Lands has defeated Republican Teddy Powell in the Special Election for Alabama State House District 10 to fill the seat last held by Republican Rep. David Cole, who was indicted for voter fraud. With 99% of precincts reporting, Lands is beating Powell by 25 points. Lands lost the election to Cole in 2022 by 7 points, making Tuesday’s results a 32-point swing in a Trump +1 district.
Internal polling by both campaigns showed a virtual dead heat, with Lands’ campaign showing her with only a 3 point lead over Powell in a poll conducted from December 16th-20th. Powell’s campaign showed the Republican with an 11 point lead. Another case of polling completely missing the mark in the post-Roe electoral reality.
Lands ran primarily on abortion and IVF rights in the state of Alabama following the Alabama Supreme Court ruling effectively banning IVF in that state.
Lands said in a statement:
Today, Alabama women and families sent a clear message that will be heard in Montgomery and across the nation. Our legislature must repeal Alabama’s no-exceptions abortion ban, fully restore access to IVF, and protect the right to contraception. To my campaign team and volunteers, both in this run and in my last one, I want you to know how much your support means to me. I could not have done this alone and have been so incredibly blessed by the people around me. I look forward to representing everyone in District 10 and building a brighter future for Alabama. The campaign might have ended, but our work is just beginning.
The Biden-Harris Campaign said in a statement:
Last month Alabamans lost access to fertility treatments because of Donald Trump. Tonight the voters in Alabama’s 10th House District elected a pro-choice champion in Marilyn Lands, Sending Trump and extreme MAGA Republicans a clear message: they know exactly who is to blame for restricting their ability to decide how and when to build their families and they’re ready to fight back.
This is the first key bellwether election in Alabama since the Supreme Court ruling, joining key elections in other conservative states such as Kansas, Ohio, and Kentucky, which turned out massive numbers to protect women’s reproductive freedoms.”

Chalk another victory up for Democrats, this time coming in the deep red state of Alabama. Where the national debate on reproductive rights has taken center stage. Over Alabama’s Supreme Court’s delusional decision to treat a frozen embryo like a fully functioning human child. Which, basically is the same logic as calling a dozen eggs twelve chickens.
Although the win itself was surprising for a Democrat in Alabama. Especially with a 25-point margin of victory. But, what truly stands out more than the win itself, is the fact that opinion polling leading up to the state’s special election was considered a dead heat. Which only further solidifies what I’ve been saying for a while now. Republicans win polls, while Democrats win elections.

Once I started researching this topic early last year. After each election or primary had been finalized. I would compare the actual voting results data to its coinciding pre-election opinion polling figures. Consistently I found the polling to have a significant bias towards the Republican candidate or issue. However, once the votes had been tallied Democrats often outperformed their pre-election polling estimates.
Take the Presidential primary outcomes for example. In nearly every state race so far Trump has underperformed his polling by a margin of between 4-18%. While President Biden has consistently overperformed polls by about 10% points. Yet for some reason, the mainstream media continues to ignore the actual voting data in favor of the opinion polls. Basing their entire coverage around false narratives inspired by the inaccuracies of opinion-based analysis.

As long as this trend still applies take comfort in that knowledge. However, depressing the media’s political rhetoric may be on a daily basis. Realize, that when it comes to winning elections, Democrats have been on a historic roll. Regardless if the vote takes place in a Red or Blue State. Women have proven to be the driving force behind these Democratic victories. If Republican’s agenda includes stripping women of their reproductive rights expect them to be a highly motivated coalition at the ballots.
They say opinions are just like assholes because everyone has one. Yet Republicans’, are often louder and always more full of shit. Which doesn’t make either worth listening to. Why the media builds their entire political narrative around them I’ll never understand. Especially when the pertinent evidence shows Women of the US have morphed the once blue wave into an oncoming blue tsunami. That’s sweeping across the nation taking out anyone or anything in its path. Republicans and the media underestimate the sheer volume behind the Women’s Rights Movement. So they spoon-feed their audience, inaccurate opinions when discussing upcoming elections. Allowing Democrats to easily ride to election W’s. Thanks solely to the strength of America’s Women and despite what the latest meaningless political polling says.
