(CNN)–“A Republican state representative in Michigan, Rep. Matt Maddock, claimed on social media on Wednesday night that he had photo evidence of “illegal invaders” arriving at Detroit Metro Airport.
One of the two photos Maddock posted on the platform called X, formerly known as Twitter, showed an Allegiant Air plane. The other photo showed three buses. Maddock wrote: “Happening right now. Three busses just loaded up with illegal invaders at Detroit Metro. Anyone have any idea where they’re headed with their police escort?”
Facts First: Maddock’s claim is false. The buses were not for “illegal invaders”; they were for the men’s college basketball teams that landed at the Detroit airport to compete in the NCAA tournament known as March Madness. The only Allegiant Air flight to the airport on Wednesday was a charter flight that carried the team from Gonzaga University, which plays Purdue University on Friday.
“The four men’s basketball teams competing in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 at Little Caesars Arena arrived at DTW Wednesday evening. The buses seen in a photograph circulating online were transporting the basketball teams and their respective staffs,” the Wayne County Airport Authority, which operates the Detroit Metro Airport, said in an email to CNN on Thursday.”

Another day, another bigoted Republican says something wildly offensive without an ounce of truth to back it up. If you’re going to be a racist POS, at the very least get your facts straight. It’s truly embarrassing what the entire GOP has devolved into under Donald Trump’s so-called leadership.
Never mind that this despicable character Matt Maddock, after having the truth presented to him. Felt his best response to undeniable evidence, was to double down on his prejudicial claims. If that type of delusional behavior sounds familiar, it’s because today’s Republicans have morphed solely into a cult of Trump. Members willingly sacrifice decency and credibility for the price of admission. Just to mirror the anti-democratic and unhinged rhetoric that spews out of Donald Trump’s mouth.

Although bigotry was at the core of Matt Maddock’s original argument, hypocrisy is also a key ingredient in the MAGA-verse. Let’s suspend reality for a minute and examine his accusations as if they were actually true. If there was a charter flight filled with immigrants being loaded onto buses in Detroit. Then it would’ve been Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott or another Right Wing Governor responsible. By orchestrating this fabricated situation, to begin with. Most likely under false pretenses and without consent from the asylum seekers. So describing Republican efforts to relocate migrants as an “invasion” also doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. The real culprit in that scenario would be Maddock’s fellow Republicans, not the innocent immigrants being used as political pawns.
So anyway you slice it Maddock’s just another fear-mongering propaganda pushing racist MAGGAT. Who abandoned his values and replaced them with blind ignorance. Because the truth only further undermines his misinformed narratives. It takes courage to admit your own mistakes. Something Trump taught his MAGA cohorts to know nothing about. When you prioritize hate and lies over earning the respect of the people. Don’t be shocked when nobody takes your opinion seriously anymore.
