(CNN)—“Former President Donald Trump said Monday that abortion rights should be left to the states, offering his clearest stance yet on one of the most delicate and contentious issues in American politics.
“My view is now that we have abortion where everyone wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said in a video posted to his Truth Social account.
In Monday’s video, Trump said he was “proudly the person responsible” for the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, which he said took the issue “out of the federal hands and brought it into the hearts, minds, and vote of the people in each state.”
Trump also falsely claimed in his video that “all legal scholars, both sides” wanted Roe v. Wade terminated and that we now have “abortion where everybody wanted it, from a legal standpoint.” Many scholars who support abortion rights, as well as a clear majority of Americans in opinion polls, did not support the overturning of the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized the procedure nationwide.”
(CEO)— Only Donald Trump could hype up an announcement regarding reproductive rights for women as dramatically as he did. Only to claim he’s chosen not to take an actual stance on abortion at all. It’s a chicken 💩 decision that satisfies neither side of the political argument and was made solely for his own benefit. Trump’s self-centered ego truly believes by not taking a stand, in the end, he ultimately pleases everyone. Which is delusional logic, even for someone as disconnected from reality as Trump is.
He’s consistently out on the campaign trail boasting about his Supreme Court nominations being integral in the overturning of Roe V Wade. Seeing as it’s one of his two only impactful achievements during his four years as President. The other being, tax cuts for his wealthy donor friends and corporations which he also often brags about.
If Trump was injected with truth serum he would openly admit that he has no credible opposition to abortions. Which makes his kowtowing to his Christian Nationalist base that much more disingenuous. It proves Trump’s willingness to sell a separate bill of goods to whichever group he thinks can be conned into giving their support. Trump changes positions more frequently than an Adderall-sniffing yoga instructor attempting to break a “Guinness World Record”. He’s nothing more than a slimy political chameleon jumping from rally to rally. Morphing into whatever that day’s crowd is clamoring for him to be.
As Trump has proven time and time again, if you pretend to stand for everything, you truly stand for nothing. Sadly, not everyone comprehends they are just another rube being manipulated by Trump’s pandering. Millions of MAGA marks, from around the country, support a man whose only allegiance is to himself. Let’s hope this latest indecision over abortion rights, exposes Trump’s two-faced character to a portion of his current backers. That normally overlooks his plethora of flaws. Whether it will change any MAGA minds heading into November’s general election we will just have to wait patiently and see.
