(Meidas Touch Network)–“The Arizona Supreme Court Tuesday upheld a law passed in 1864 in the Arizona Territory that imposes a total abortion ban in the state. The territorial law went into effect immediately upon the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, but has been held up due to legal challenges.
A separate law outlawing abortion after 15 weeks that passed in 2022 was overridden by the 1864 law after Roe was overturned, since the older law remained on the books but was unenforceable due to Roe v. Wade. The 1864 law mandates two to five years in prison for anyone aiding an abortion, except if the procedure is necessary to save the life of the mother. The law was passed decades before women had the right to vote in the United States.
The ruling comes one day after Donald Trump released a video statement declaring he “proudly ended Roe v. Wade” and stating that he supports the the right of states to outlaw abortion fully in a post-Roe United States.”
One day after Donald Trump made his self-serving public statement. Announcing he officially had no stance regarding women’s reproductive rights and would leave it up to states to decide, on women’s behalf. We receive this disastrous ruling from Arizona’s Supreme Court outright banning all abortions with the lone exception being the life of the mother. As long as her life is in jeopardy before the 15-week mark. Exposing the threat, Trump and the Republican Party as a whole, pose to the health and well-being of women around the nation.
A slippery slope, caused solely because Roe V Wade was overturned by the extremist conservatives on the United States Supreme Court. That one flawed judgment has led to the suffering of millions of women, who no longer have the freedom to choose their own reproductive care. Triggering a law passed even before women had the right to vote, superseding legislation from just 2 years ago. It’s as archaic as it is frightening. All because Republicans crave maintaining power over their civic obligations to protect citizens’ rights.
Going forward, no matter what office is up for grabs on the federal, state, and local levels. It’s incumbent upon the public to take back control by ousting Republicans from their current government positions. Voting Democrats in, whether it’s the Presidency, Congress, State Legislatures, City Council, or Town Dog Catcher is essential. As it’s abundantly clear the right wing’s only allegiance is to their religious beliefs not the Constitution or the rule of law.
Republicans have betrayed the entire American population regardless of what MAGA morons may think. There’s a reason why the GOP’s base has continually declined in recent years. Instead of embracing the moral growth of society, they’ve stymied progress across the country. It’s called the tyranny of the minority and it’s on full display with Republicans’ hypocritical ideology. The only legal recourse is to strip them of their governing power at the ballot box. No longer can we stand idly by while the pettiness of right-wing politics dictates our lives. The battle lines have been drawn and until the GOP is flushed of all extremists. Our only recourse is replacing each and every one of them with Democrats. Maybe then they will comprehend it’s We The People, not the religious right, who make the ultimate decisions, here in the USA.
