Their confab made it abundantly clear that the centerpiece of their campaign strategy will be fueled by conspiracy theories and election denialism. Trump and Johnson have built an “alliance on the falsehood of the stolen election,” setting the stage for their efforts to undermine the 2024 election and throw out millions legitimate votes if the results don’t go their way.
Yet instead of calling out these conspiracy theories for what they are, a majority of House Republicans and extreme candidates have refused to denounce this dangerous rhetoric and looked the other way.
Reminder: recent battleground polling from the DCCC has shown that, in competitive House districts across the country, a majority of likely voters disagree with their election extremism, finding their efforts to disrupt free and fair elections very concerning.”
(CEO)— There you have it folks! An obvious preview of how Donald Trump, with the help of Speaker Mike Johnson and the rest of the MAGA House Republicans. Plan to, once again, overturn the results of a free and fair election. In this edition, it’s the immigration crisis that will be the underlying fabrication. Co-opted by Republicans, to fit a specific false narrative intended to sow doubt about election integrity in the 2024 Presidential Race.
Leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election, Trump was vehemently lobbying against mail-in voting. That was his plan to undermine the results prior to that election. Even going as far as to install an ally willing to oversee the US Postal Service. Louis Dejoy was made Postmaster General and immediately caused chaos throughout the organization by sabotaging its operations. The Trump Administration also made extensive cuts to the USPS’s funding. To disrupt mail-in voting which was ultimately used more by Democrats. Trump himself discouraged Republicans from utilizing mail-in ballots for that very reason. Thankfully it backfired and possibly cost Trump the election.
Fast forward to yesterday’s staged “press conference” in which Trump and Johnson discussed how undocumented immigrants voting is an ongoing problem they want to address. However, the truth is, that it’s already a felony for noncitizens to vote. The penalties for this are extremely harsh and include costly fines, jail time, immediate deportation, and denial of naturalization privileges.
With consequences so severe, why would anyone risk voting as a noncitizen you ask? The answer is that they don’t!! It’s been proven, time and time again, that voter fraud, in general, is quite rare. In fact, it only occurs 0.0003-0.0025% of the time. With voting by undocumented immigrants making up a tiny fraction of that number. Since 2000 there have been over a billion votes cast and the total figure of noncitizens voting is estimated at around a few dozen.
So for Trump and Johnson to claim otherwise, is factually dishonest at best and purposefully misleading, to cast doubt in our democratic institutions. With this latest nonsensical announcement, Republicans have only telegraphed their corrupted political intentions. Now it’s up to the media and the public to hold them accountable for their lies and thwart any further attempts of criminal interference in the 2024 election.
November’s election is going to be a remarkably tight race between Trump and President Biden. So it’s incumbent upon every American to protect and defend their right to vote. Don’t allow right-wing vigilantes to deny your vote from counting. Make sure to register early and properly cast your ballot by whatever method you choose. Republicans are looking for any excuse to prevent Democrats from successfully voting. So it’s up to each individual to ensure your Presidential selection is legitimately counted on or before Election Day.
