(MSNBC)–“We’re only one week into the first criminal trial of Donald Trump, yet he and his MAGA allies are already intervening to identify and drive off the jury anyone they think could pose a risk to the former president.
At Fox News, host Jesse Watters has launched attacks on the jurors, saying at one point that any juror who says they can be unbiased in the case is a liar, and citing Trump’s legal team as having uncovered potential jurors who were “undercover activists.” Trump himself quickly amplified Watters’ remarks (and as Lawrence O’Donnell noted, partially altering Watters’ quote) on Truth Social — an action that risks violating Judge Juan Merchan’s gag order prohibiting attacks on jurors, potential witnesses and other people related to the case. A prosecutor in the case reportedly called his remarkdisturbing while saying that Trump did, in fact, violate the gag order.
Watters has gone further than merely making general complaints about jurors; his efforts may have contributed to a juror leaving the trial entirely. On Wednesday, Watters called out “juror number 2,” describing extensive details about her work and personal life. By the next morning, the juror noted in court, her friends and family seemingly had figured out she was a member of the jury, and she withdrew from the trial as a result.”

After only one week of what presumably will be a six to eight-week trial. The far-right echo chamber has impacted the procedures of the judicial system. So, of course, any signs of progress will indeed embolden these deranged MAGA operatives. To pursue additional channels to derail the prosecution’s case. As with every other aspect of the political process, the extreme right relies heavily upon lying, cheating, and stealing, to secure victories. At this stage, it’s already baked firmly into their strategic agenda. So if corruption, is the only method for them, to come out on top. Expect further scenarios to undermine the integrity of the jury.
Keep an eye on fabricated social media posts or accounts from people sharing the names of jurors. It’s a simple way to falsely incriminate someone serving their civic duty. By artificially linking them to the rantings of an altogether different individual. Another scheme for meddling is interviewing a person declaring to know a specific juror. By paying them to release damaging information about a jury member’s past, that may or may not actually be true. Nevertheless misleading the overall perception can have an adverse influence on the integrity of the proceedings.
It’s a sad time in American history and it has nothing to do with a former President facing criminal prosecution. The disturbing reality is nearly half of the country would rather interfere with the judicial system. To get a pre-determined verdict established by prejudicial political loyalties. Then honestly study the evidence and make an educated opinion, based solely upon the facts presented. Nope, that day has long since passed.
