(CNN) — “The far-right cable network One America News retracted a story and apologized Monday after it falsely claimed former President Donald Trump’s ex lawyer Michael Cohen was the one who had an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels and secretly used it to “extort” the Trump Organization.
Cohen and Daniels are both key witnesses against Trump in his ongoing New York state criminal trial. Trump is accused of falsifying business records to cover-up the $130,000 payment that Daniels received so she wouldn’t publicly reveal their alleged affair before the 2016 election.
The article was published last month and claimed, according to a single unnamed source, that Cohen and Daniels were in a years-long affair and that “the whole hush money scheme was cooked up” by Cohen. The false allegations appear to originate from a right-wing figure who posted the allegations on X, formerly Twitter.”
(CEO)— For those of you who are not familiar with the work of the OAN network. It’s an extreme right propaganda outlet that does for Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies. The same exact kind of disinformation peddling Russian State Media does for Vladimir Putin. It spreads baseless lies intended to undermine democracy and further indoctrinate the MAGA culture into the public narrative. OAN has shown such total disregard for journalistic principles. It often relies upon tweets from deranged Trump sycophants as its sourced material. In comparison OAN’s programming makes Fox News seem like a progressive liberal utopia of truth.
Now that Trump has officially been held in contempt in his Election Interference Trial. It appears right-wing extremist organizations like OAN are now at the beck and call of Trump. To disseminate fraudulent stories about potential witnesses to muddy the waters of public opinion. Allowing Trump to abide by Judge Merchan’s gag orders while his supporters still get fed a daily dose of fabrications. We are now only a couple weeks into this trial and Trump’s far-right media partners have already been jury-intimidating and now appear to be in the witness tampering business as well. If these tactics weren’t ordered by Trump himself that would be the most surprising part of this whole saga.
One of OAN’s top hosts Christina Bobb was recently appointed by Trump and his daughter-in-law/ RNC chairwoman to head up the “Election Integrity Unit” for the Republican Party. Not only has Bobb spent much of her time on the network spreading Trump’s election lies to her audience. Just days after the announcement of Bobb’s new position in the GOP establishment. She was indicted in Arizona for her role in heading up the fake electors scheme in that state. This just highlights the overwhelming lack of credibility the OAN network and the Republican Party share concurrently. If this is the caliber of person intentionally being tasked to symbolize your institution. It sure says an awful lot more about the reliability of the organizations themselves.
OAN is now exclusively in the MAGA Trump industry. Sadly, they still have a fairly supportive base. Which rely upon them for political information and conservative policy discussions. How is their viewer’s loyalty rewarded? By formulating brainwashing and fear-mongering practices. To push Trump’s undesirable ideology onto unsuspecting citizens unable to separate fact from fiction. I understand what Trump gets out of associating with OAN while they do his bidding. The question remains, how does OAN benefit in this relationship? Because being complicit in overturning a free and fair election and witness tampering can’t possibly pay the bills. If OAN somehow assumes Trump is going to promote them to State Run Media status if he’s elected President again. The only recent example of Trump paying anyone back for a favor is the basis of his current legal troubles. So OAN expecting any type of quid pro quo in return from Trump. For, their illegal attempts to interfere with the judicial process, make them just as gullible as the audience members they deliberately deceive on Trump’s behalf every day.
