“Everything that we do in the House of Representatives should be in the best interests of getting Donald Trump re-elected,” Troy Nehls said — while wearing a necktie featuring images of the former president.
(MSNBC)–“Republican Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas has earned a reputation for speaking candidly about his political beliefs. In general, elected lawmakers tend to say that everything Congress does should be in the best interests of the American public, but the Texan apparently didn’t feel the need to maintain the pretense. As Nehls described it, the House of Representatives shouldn’t necessarily serve as part of a powerful branch of government. Rather, the House is effectively a super PAC, looking out for the interests of a twice-impeached suspected felon.
The comments led Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. to respond online soon after, “Elected Republicans think their #1 job in office is helping Donald Trump. Not aiding the people, not protecting America, serving Trump. The Republican Party is unfit to govern America and doesn’t give a damn about you.”
This is, for example, the same Nehls who said a few weeks ago that he supports extending his party’s failed 2017 tax cuts because, “Trump is right all the time. Trump is right all the time.” A few days prior, Nehls also said that House Speaker Mike Johnson should be “consulting with Donald Trump on just about everything we do.””

(CEO)— Does anyone remember the good old days when Republicans used to, at least pretend publicly, they were working for some noble American cause? While simultaneously selling out their constituents to the highest-bidding lobbyists. Well, those days have long since passed and the days of the GOP wearing their corruption as a badge of honor may be here to stay. As MAGA Republicans no longer feel it’s necessary to cover up their anti-democratic political agenda. Swearing their allegiance to Donald Trump and rejecting their oath to the protect and defend the Constitution, to the detriment of the country as a whole.

However, this newfound willingness to openly admit “dereliction of duty” does raise a legitimate question. If the Right Wing base allows this type of behavior from their elected officials, to persist without any repercussions. Does that mean the MAGA voters are a bigger threat to our democracy than the politicians themselves? Either way, the Republican electorate showing no interest in holding their party accountable should frighten the entire American population.

The fact, one of two viable political parties, now seems comfortable with the idea of a future Trump dictatorship. This marks a clear departure from the “country over party” loyalty that constituents on both sides of the aisle once agreed on. When “We The People” can’t collectively support a thriving American democracy. Due to rising authoritarian fascination among those on the right. The divide among the people will only further intensify. Although the public deserves blame for the current political climate. The GOP leadership has also failed this country by not self-policing Trump’s hate-based ideology out of the party’s platform.

Even though the deterioration of the GOP is a “chicken or the egg” argument. What MAGA underlings in both the base and officeholders don’t yet understand. Their active involvement in the MAGA movement doesn’t protect them from the potential hazards of a second Trump Presidency. That’s why Trump’s credentials as Conman in Chief are second to none. If his own MAGA marks and rubes intentionally provide Trump with the power, wealth, and protection from prosecution he covets. Once Trump is finished taking all his MAGA supporters have to offer. How long before they even realize they are the punchline of a joke Trump’s played on the entire nation?

Sadly the after-effects of the MAGA long con will have devastatingly negative impacts on all Americans. The question all of us will eventually have to answer. Is whether you were a willing participant in Trump’s takeover or were you, part of the resistance that helped protect American democracy? Luckily we still all have time for our answer to fall on the proper side of history. The choice is simple, save the American dream or suffer the consequences of Trump’s dystopian nightmare.
