(NBC News)–“The 34 felony guilty verdicts returned against former President Donald Trump on Thursday spurred a wave of violent rhetoric aimed at the prosecutors who secured his conviction, the judge who oversaw the case and the ordinary jurors who unanimously agreed there was no reasonable doubt that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee falsified business records related to hush money payments to a porn star to benefit his 2016 campaign.
Advance Democracy, a nonprofit that conducts public interest research, said there has been a high volume of social media posts containing violent rhetoric targeting New York Judge Juan Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, including a post with Bragg’s purported home address. The group also found posts of the purported addresses of jurors on a fringe internet message board known for pro-Trump content and harassing and violent posts, although it is unclear if any actual jurors had been correctly identified.
“We are continuing to see a dangerous erosion of democratic norms,” Daniel J. Jones, president of Advance Democracy, said in a statement to NBC News. “Trump and his allies have been spreading disinformation about the trial, challenging Justice Merchan’s impartiality, and describing the entire process as ‘rigged’ for weeks. As such, it’s not a surprise that some of his most fervent supporters are now calling for doxxing and violence against jurors, the judge, and the district attorney.””
(CEO)—Republican’s dangerous rhetoric attacking the democratic rule of law is once again stoking the flames of political violence from MAGA supporters nationwide. As if their prior fabrications regarding the 2020 Presidential Election. Hadn’t already inspired the armed insurrection at the Capitol and the accompanying violence on January 6th, 2021. What will it take before the GOP learns, that lying to their base on Donald Trump’s behalf, only further erodes trust in our Democracy?
Republicans seem all too eager to tear apart the fabric of American society when legal outcomes don’t go their way. Yet pretend they are fighting for some noble cause. When the truth is they would rather cause our democracy to collapse than admit defeat. They’ve once again gone too far to avoid self-inflicted embarrassment. By covering up their wrongdoing, they’ve become an enemy this country must fend off. Rather than acknowledge the divisive toll Trump has inflicted on the nation. They choose to double down on their misguided support of Trump despite overwhelming evidence of his corruption.
More innocent civilians’ lives are under threats of violence, by the same MAGA sycophants being repeatedly lied to by Republicans. They no longer can decipher reality from fiction. Manipulated into doing Trump’s dirty work as an expression of allegiance to the MAGA movement. When the man they are trying to impress is solely motivated by his own self-interests and will never repay their devotion to his objective. Most if not all of Trump’s policies will negatively impact his staunchest devotees while positively adding to his own bottom line.
Trump and his Right Wing cohorts use their political influence to weaponize their misinformed followers. It never matters who is victimized by these violent overreactions as long as Trump somehow benefits. In this case, it’s the upright collection of citizens doing their civic duty as jurors. Also, the Judges and Prosecutors, simply doing their jobs as members of the Judicial System. Even back on January 6th Congressmen and women honoring their oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Or the law enforcement agencies sworn to safeguard the democratic process. Of tallying up the will of the United States people by certifying the election. Each one of Trump’s supposed adversaries was in positions vital to maintaining democracy.
Trump is the greatest threat to this country’s democratic institutions and overall stability. Maybe it’s time to reconsider how “patriotism” is defined by Trumpism. If it’s MAGA declaring “war” against the unsung heroes allowing the US to become the greatest nation in history. The ordinary citizens and elected officials assigned to upholding the functions, making America great in the first place. That is, just about the most unpatriotic thing this country has ever witnessed. If you don’t believe me, just ask the other MAGA pawns serving lengthy sentences. If it was worth being labeled “domestic terrorists” for their crimes against democracy. What if anything has Trump and the Republican Party done to reciprocate their blind faith? Besides abandoning them in a cell while being stripped of all their freedoms and destroying their lives. For what? To satisfy the unquenching thirst for power of a single madman. It doesn’t get any more un-American than that.
