For Pardoning Purposes GOP Bill Makes All State Prosecutions Against Presidents Federal!!!

(MSNBC)—“In the wake of Donald Trump’s felony convictions, House Speaker Mike Johnson told his GOP conference this week that he has a “three-pronged approach” in mind to respond to the former president’s prosecutions. The first involves “the appropriations process” — Republicans want to defund prosecutors they don’t like — and another prong relates to “oversight,” which refers to another round of partisan, conspiratorial investigations.

But the Louisiana congressman also vowed this week to make use of “the legislative process, through bills that will be advancing through our committees and put it on the floor for passage.”

And what, pray tell, might these bills entail?” Axios reported this week:

House conservatives are pressuring Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for a vote on legislation aimed at showing their allegiance to former President Trump after his historic criminal conviction, Axios has learned. … Conservatives want a floor vote on a bill that would allow current or former presidents to move any state case brought against them — such as the one in New York that resulted in Trump’s conviction — to federal court, according to multiple House Republican sources.

(CEO)—The only “accomplishments” the Republicans of the 118th Congress have to show for their time in the House majority. Is their undebatable ability to lie, cheat, and steal to avoid accountability for their own corruption. Having the US Speaker, proving once again, that governing for the betterment of the country. Will always take a backseat to the desires and needs of Donald Trump. Coupled with the GOP’s hypocrisy, in this case, to strip states of their prosecutorial powers. After building their entire ideology around the sovereignty of states rights. It’s a nonsensical look for the party of limited policy substance to undermine its lone argument.

Of course whenever the rule of law obstructs Trump’s revenge-based agenda. Republicans have no problem changing those laws to protect their Felon-in-Chief from his well-deserved punishment. If only “moving the goalposts” for self-serving political purposes were considered achievements. Then this House of MAGATS would go down in the history books as the G.O.A.T.. But they absolutely don’t and they thankfully won’t. No, this Congress by all known measures has consistently failed the American public. In a manner that all of their predecessors would be embarrassed to call them fellow lawmakers. When they can barely perform their one true obligation.

Even a simple comparison to the 117th House of Reps with a Democratic majority. Can provide all the evidence needed to determine which party takes governance seriously. The current GOP-led House will hold the all-time record for the lowest number of bills passed in history. Which currently stands at 64. The last Congress with the Democrats in charge enacted 365 laws with a handful of groundbreaking legislation. Making them one of the most productive legislative bodies in history. With the same slim majority as the current under-performers.

Maybe if the GOP’s endgame wasn’t allowing Trump to pardon himself. Another shameless example of the Authoritarian fetish suffered by MAGA Republicans. Their sanctimonious, “above the law”, attitude might’ve been overlooked by undecided voters. But with motives, that immoral, we can only hope independents see the forest through the trees. When it comes time to cast their vote come November. If Republicans are solely focusing their time on impressing Trump. It opens up the door for Democrats to convince uncommitted voters. They’re the party more concerned with fixing the problems of everyday Americans, not just the one felon named Donald Trump.
