(CNN) — “Violent crime dropped by more than 15% in the United States during the first three months of 2024, according to statistics released Monday by the FBI.
The new numbers show violent crime from January to March dropped 15.2% compared to the same period in 2023, while murders fell 26.4% and reported rapes decreased by 25.7%. Aggravated assaults decreased during that period when compared to last year by 12.5%, according to the data, while robberies fell 17.8%.
Meanwhile, property crime went down 15.1% in the first three months of this year. Burglaries dropped 16.7%, while motor vehicle theft decreased by 17.3%. The declines in violent and property crimes were seen in every region of the US.”
(CEO)—For the better part of two decades Republicans have self-described themselves as the party of “law and order”. But like most claims from the GOP these days, that narrative is not based upon reality. The truth is that Republican-run states have consistently seen more violent crimes and significantly higher murder rates than Democratic-led states. The same trends also occured under the last two Republican Presidents, as overall crime surged during their administrations. While last two Democratic Presidents have presided over historic declines in those same statistics.
The latest figures released reveal Red States have a 33% higher murder rate than those of the Blue States. With 9 out of the top 10 states in 2022 reporting the highest murder rates being governed by Republicans. By 2020, Trump’s last year in office, murders rose by 30%. With a 40% higher rate of murder in the Red States versus the Blue States that same year. Yet somehow the media, specifically right-wing outlets like Fox News, loves to increase their coverage of crime around election season. Giving a misleading impression of an uptick in rampant violent crimes regardless if the data proves otherwise. For example, leading up to the 2022 midterms each week from Labor Day to the election Fox News averaged 141 segments on crime. In the weeks following the election, their average number of segments dropped to 71 or by nearly half.
So this latest report from the FBI is just further proof Democrats are the party fixing the country’s crime issues. Through job creation, educational resources, and poverty reduction programs. At least the MAGA Trump version of today’s GOP is forthcoming about their disdain for Law Enforcement and the Justice System. Publicly questioning the integrity and credibility of these institutions with no evidence to support their conspiracy theories. Calls from Trump and his cronies to defund the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. After years of falsely accusing Democrats of the same type of rhetoric.
The juxtaposition between Trump, a convicted felon, fabricating allegations of corruption at the Justice Department, to cover up his own criminality. While President Biden was stoically reacting to his own Son’s conviction. Prosecuted by the same DOJ Trump claims Biden weaponized. Despite Biden respecting the jury’s outcome and refusing to intervene on his son, Hunter’s behalf. Proving Biden has never influenced the Justice Department’s investigations. Even if, Biden was saddened by the conviction, as a loving and caring father of a former addict would. Comparatively, during Trump’s tenor in office, he repeatedly intervened in the investigations and sentencing of his allies. While demanding surveillance and prosecution of Democrats and journalists critical of his administration. Trump has already weaponized the DOJ during his time in office and promises to once again in a second term. As retribution for being held accountable in four separate criminal investigations, both state and federal.
Republicans selecting a convicted felon as their Presidential nominee may be a first. But the GOP failing to protect their constituents from violent crimes and murder. Has been an underreported truth overlooked for decades. At least, after the January 6th insurrection, orchestrated by Trump. It’s become increasingly difficult for the media to co-sign the Republican “law and order” narrative. But instead of accurately corroborating the stronger track record on crime, of the Democrats. The media falls back on their false equivalency, both sides are at fault, manipulation of the truth. Treating opinion polling on crime as a major news feature. While substantial crime statistics, if covered at all, are a footnote. Ironically enough the main source of public opinion on crime is the press coverage itself. A vicious cycle of distorting reality to bury the accurate lead. That Democrats, not Republicans, by every known calculation available, are truthfully the party of “Law and Order” in America.
