(NBC News)–“Pastor Robert Morris, a Texas megachurch pastor who served as a spiritual adviser to former President Donald Trump, has confessed to a “moral failure” four decades ago after a woman accused him of repeatedly molesting her as a child.
The woman, Cindy Clemishire, told NBC News that Morris, now a senior pastor of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, was staying with her family on Christmas night in 1982. She was 12; he was 21. Clemishire, now 54, said he invited her to his room, where he instructed her to lie on her back. He then touched her breasts and felt under her panties, Clemishire said — the first of several similar encounters that would span the next 4½ years, she said.
“Never tell anyone about this,” Clemishire recalled him saying. “It will ruin everything.””
(CEO)—What truly nauseates me about the religious right in this country? That pedophile scum like Pastor Robert Morris, is far more often the norm in religion-based political circles than the exception to the rule. So it should come as no surprise that Donald Trump felt compelled to make Morris his personal spiritual advisor. As it appears the two men share more characteristic flaws than being self-righteous morally bankrupt hypocrites. Both men are also undeniable sexual predators preying upon innocent young girls.
Morris founded the Gateway Church in Texas back in 2000. With an estimated weekly attendance of around 100,000 people, it has grown into one of the country’s largest mega-churches. Morris is known for advancing “Conservative Christian Morality” into government through Republican policies. A Trump loyalist, Morris stood by the Insurrectionist after his failed attempt to overthrow the Presidential Election. He helped Trump spread fabricated election fraud claims to his parishioners. Morris also supported GOP Governor Greg Abbott’s anti-transgender bathroom bans. Ironically Morris said he was backing the bigoted bill to “Protect the Safety of Women and Children. Still, no Republican ever once thought to protect those same women and children from Morris’s sexual advances.
Morris has previously preached about the (non-existent) “dangers” posed by “Critical Race Theory” in public schools. Also calling children’s schoolbooks with LGBTQ+ positive themes found in local libraries “pornographic”. Yet during one of Morris’ sermons, he stated “Girls were made to be held by men” When referencing a Bible passage regarding rape. Adding “If that need is not met in a healthy way by their father, they will meet it in an unhealthy way.” Morris then told the women in his congregation that men cheating on their wives, did so because “he’s satisfying an appetite that you created in him”. Another example of the right-wing hypocrites in this country taking guidance on their principles and faith from a grotesque pedophile.
With each passing day, similar reports of sexual abuse and misconduct are being uncovered nationwide. Often the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are either clergy members or far-right political figures. Either way, the story remains nearly the same across the board. A man in a position of authority uses his elevated status to commit sexual atrocities against young boys or girls. Most times the accused publicly condemns those in the LGTBQ+ community for having consenting relationships with other adults. When in some of these instances, the religious bigots are involved in the exact sexual scenarios they pretend to demonize.
Believing in religion doesn’t automatically put you in high moral standing. Especially if you’ve weaponized your devotion to manipulate and terrorize others not sharing your religious views. Or by exploiting those who do, as they are looking for some spiritual guidance. Morris and the rest of his perverted ilk are the worst kind of humans walking this earth. Nevertheless, these instinctual predators seek positions where they’re handpicked to protect the flock from vultures much like themselves. Selecting a wolf in sheep’s clothing as a representative is a defect among religion-based Republicans. Their recent track record at picking honorable GOP leaders is at best checkered. Maybe if the right wing wasn’t so blinded by the religious resumes of their candidates. They might actually see the absence, of integrity and morality attributes in these men, staring them right in the face.
