(CEO)—Republicans have a long storied history of overlooking their party’s leadership flaws and failures. However, there’s one attribute that some lifelong Republicans will not tolerate. That is a blatant disrespect of America’s military—specifically the men and women who have bravely served and sacrificed for our country. Yet Donald Trump and his MAGA underlings have proven time and time again. They not only show no admiration for US soldiers. They go out of their way to ridicule and disparage some of America’s greatest heroes.
So when 200-plus Republican leaders signed a letter of endorsement for Kamala Harris, it’s no surprise a majority of them can point to a specific moment, when Trump’s personal disdain of the military caused their exodus from the modern-day MAGA movement. Even all of Trump’s former Generals have publicly declared he is mentally unfit to serve as Commander-in-Chief once again. Except of course disgraced former Gen MAGA Mike Flynn who Trump criminally pardoned. After Flynn was convicted of lying to the FBI regarding his involvement in Trump’s collusion with Russia. Making Flynn the lone remaining General Trump still fondly admires. Trump even publicly called for the execution of Gen Mark Milley. Trump’s former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Despite Milley serving his administration honorably, as did the rest of the Generals, Trump now detests.
A new focus of Trump’s campaign has been to shift blame for the tragic loss of 13 US Soldiers. Onto Kamala Harris for the chaotic evacuation of troops from Afghanistan. A self-serving political ploy intended to gain Trump, voters. He’s exploiting the memory of those who ultimately sacrificed their lives. Now being treated as political pawns by a 5-time draft dodger and not as the heroic fallen servicemembers our nation still mourns. Despite Trump being knowingly complicit in the chain of events that led to their premature deaths. Trump routinely refers to Prisoners of War and Military Casualties, as “suckers and losers” Meanwhile he would rather play grab-ass with foreign dictators than treat American Veterans with just an ounce of dignity. Trump even believed Vladimir Putin’s word over the mountains of evidence from the United States intelligence community. Regarding the Russians arranging a bounty reward for anyone killing American Soldiers in Afghanistan.
Trump has never once been courageous enough to accept fault or responsibility of any kind. Even to this day, Trump still hasn’t apologized for his involvement in the January 6th insurrection. There are many shortcomings Republicans can and will condone. But the desecration of those who protect and defend our democracy certainly isn’t one of them. That’s what makes this election about so much more than simple policy debates. This time around there are fundamental issues that unite both sides of the political divide against Trump. We must be able to trust our President to prioritize the safety of all Americans. Both at home and abroad. A selfless quality that never existed inside Trump. It’s the main reason members of his own party are lining up to cast votes for the Democrat, Kamala Harris. They recognize in Harris all the attributes of leadership. Trump not only doesn’t possess himself. He disparages all of our enlisted and retired military personnel who share that integral personality trait. An obvious fact a growing list of Republicans can no longer stand silently by and endorse.
