Donald Trump in an interview with Spanish Language Television Network Univision openly discussed his plans to prosecute political rivals if elected to a second term. Trump who on many occasions during his Presidency publicly called for those who had crossed him to face possible prosecution. Although investigations were ongoing of some of those Trump considered critical of his Presidency. Attorney General Bill Barr never did pull the trigger on prosecuting anyone solely for their contempt of Trump.
As Trump now faces legitimate criminal prosecution, he has not only used his legal woes to support his false narrative that the Biden Justice Department has been weaponized against him. He vows if re-elected he will put only loyalists willing to adhere to his demands in positions throughout the government including the Justice Department. So he won’t face any resistance seeking retribution against those he considers a political threat.
That shocking admission may not come as a surprise given Trump’s obsession with power but it should be universally condemned. Especially by Republicans who have falsely accused President Joe Biden of the same accusations. However, just as the GOP has allowed Trump to tear down the guardrails on our democracy without any substantial backlash. This too will most likely be met with silence from those in Republican Leadership. If orchestrating a violent attack against Congress at their place of business doesn’t cause Congressional Republicans to lose faith in their authoritarian wannabe Trump. Then this banana-republic-like use of the Justice Department is par for the course for the corrupted Republican Party..
That is until one of those who are currently loyal to Trump does something that the unhinged future dictator feels is disrespectful. I mean just look at the witness lists from all of his criminal cases and the January 6th committee. Every one of them was at one point a close ally to Trump, but now they find themselves on his 💩 list. So this is your warning Republicans. Even if you feel like Trump would never turn on you. Don’t be so sure of that, because if Trump came for the minorities and you didn’t speak up because you weren’t a minority. Then Trump came for the Democrats and you didn’t speak up because you weren’t a Democrat. Then Trump came for the R.I.N.O’s and again you didn’t speak up because you’re not a R.I.N.O. But then Trump came for you and due to your silence, there was no one left to speak up for you. So be careful what you Republicans wish for regarding Trump because you just might get it.
