(Business Insider)- “In her forthcoming book, “Oath and Honor,” former Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney revealed that Kevin McCarthy’s heavily criticized visit to Mar-a-Lago following the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol was prompted by concern over former President Donald Trump being “depressed.”
McCarthy made the controversial trip to the South Florida resort just three weeks after the attack that left five people dead, generating outrage from political allies and adversaries alike who considered the visit inappropriately timed.
“Mar-a-Lago? What the hell, Kevin?” Cheney asked the then-House Minority Leader from California following his visit, CNN reported in an excerpt from her book.
“They’re really worried,” McCarthy told Cheney, who at the time was the chair of the House Republican Conference. “Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him.”
“What? You went to Mar-a-Lago because Trump’s not eating?” Cheney responded.
“Yeah, he’s really depressed,” McCarthy said, according to Cheney.”
Let’s give a big round of applause for an American Political Hero Liz Cheney. Her latest tell-all book spills all the hot “tea“(Gen Z for gossip) of her former colleagues in the Republican Party. The book lambasts Right-Wingers including Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan, and Mark Green calling them “enablers” and “collaborators” for their handling of “Orange Jesus” Aka Donald Trump.
Cheney along with her fellow January 6th Republican Committee member Adam Kinszinger might be the only two GOP politicians in this era, who will be on the right side of history when all is said and done. Their decision to choose American democracy over Donald Trump’s MAGA movement and its stranglehold over the Republican Party. Is the definition of putting country over party, a once common approach for political decision-makers in the GOP, but is now as scarce as a genuine living member of the George Santos fan club.
Cheney’s description of her conversation with Kevin McCarthy regarding his trip to Mar-A-Largo. Where he went to resurrect Trump from the brink of political exile after January 6th. Reveals the extent of their desperation at the time. McCarthy, who seemed willing to cut up Trump’s Big Mac Meal and force-feed it to the pouting turncoat. Just so he could land the one gig that fueled his wet dreams. Two power-hungry narcissists salivating at the prospect of leading the Republican Party toward its “authoritarian for dummies” era.
It’s such a shame that Trump and McCarthy, not Cheney and Kinszinger were the pair anointed to lead the Party. That speaks volumes about the makeup of the Republican electorate. Choosing morally bankrupt faux conservatives over selfless patriotic civil servants shows the ignorance of today’s GOP voters. That would be like, if given the option of an afternoon snack, choosing a pulpy orange juice and toothpaste smoothie over a peanut butter and fluff sandwich. Then taking to social media to virtually chest bump with all the other smoothie buffoons. Whose hobbies, besides making terrible decisions are most likely sending death threats to those who would rather choose the fluffernutter.
However, their loss is now our gain. With Liz Cheney now touring the country to promote her book and the dangers that the MAGA Republican movement poses to our democracy. Alongside Adam Kinszinger who also spends his time and money warning the American public of the imminent threat that the Republican Party has become to the nation. Hopefully, they can reach the few remaining sane Republicans and Independents in time for the 2024 Presidential Election. Because if Cheney and Kinszinger two of the most conventional conservatives there is, can support President Joe Biden over Donald Trump. Then so should those right-leaning undecided voters.
