(CNN)-“State media shows Russia is celebrating as lawmakers remain deadlocked over aid to Ukraine. CNN’s Erin Burnett reports.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited with President Joe Biden today after he spent the morning meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The reason behind the former penis-prop comedian and current bad mofo’s visit was to explain to Republican Congresspeople the gravity of the situation unfolding in his democratic country. Without further funding from the United States, Ukraine’s military will not be able to fend off Russian forces much longer.
Republicans have once again held the business of the American government hostage. This time it’s a package with multiple national security implications that have fallen victim to the GOP’s recurring self-serving tactics. The contents of the bill would not only help fund Ukraine it would also send aid to Israel, Palestinian refugees, and Taiwan along with money to better secure the border with Mexico. However, Republicans want to hijack the package to implement failed Trump-era immigration policies. Knowing full well that without this funding by the Christmas break Ukraine may not last through the winter. To the delight of Vladimir Putin and his supporters in Right-Wing circles.
Even State-run media in Russia sees the writing on the wall and has praised the Republican Party, for its handling of this matter. This is how far the GOP has fallen since Trump took the reins back in 2016. If this aid package fails to pass Putin would finally get the returns on his investment he has been waiting for since he helped elect Trump by interfering in our elections.
If Putin successfully overtakes Ukraine it would have devastating effects on democracies worldwide. China would then be emboldened to invade Taiwan if they knew just how divided the United States was over the military defense of foreign democracies. Republicans are ignorant if they think otherwise. Trump has vowed publicly to remove the U.S. from its NATO alliance if given a second term. Without NATO defense forces having the backing of the United States: China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea could easily take over as the world’s new axis of evil.
Republicans would prefer America stay out of the picture when it comes to world affairs. Their short-sighted approach to foreign policy will have disastrous consequences at home too. Trump’s actions have already caused a deterioration of our democracy in his first term. He has been shockingly honest about how he will further destroy the guardrails that stood in his way before, if given a second term. So we should take the Republican Party and its wannabe authoritarian leader at its word. Russian State media has received the message loud and clear. Sadly, it’s the American media that still needs convincing. To quote Liz Cheney, they are “sleepwalking into a dictatorship” and the Republican Party is the one making sure that the American public doesn’t wake up.
