(CNN)-“The Republican chairman behind the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden said Wednesday they will start contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter Biden for not participating in his closed-door deposition on Wednesday, after he demanded to testify publicly.
“Hunter Biden today defied lawful subpoenas and we will now initiate contempt of Congress proceedings,” said House Oversight Chair James Comer and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan in a joint statement. “We will not provide special treatment because his last name is Biden.”
In his first public statement since being criminally indicted twice, Hunter Biden, the president’s son, said earlier Wednesday that he has “made mistakes” but slammed House Republicans for trying to “dehumanize me all to embarrass and damage my father.”
In his statement, Hunter said, “In the depths of my addiction, I was extremely irresponsible with my finances. But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd. It’s shameless. There is no evidence to support the allegations that my father was financially involved in my business because it did not happen.”
“For six years, I have been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine shouting ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here is my answer, I am here,” Hunter Biden told reporters outside the Capitol.
Hunter Biden said he is willing testify publicly as part of the GOP-led investigation into the president, but declined to say whether he would appear for a closed-door deposition with House Republicans.”
Bravo Hunter Biden!!! It’s about time that the son of President Joe Biden spoke publicly to lambast the shady tactics that Republicans have used to demonize the Biden family. Calling out House Oversight Chairman and despicable blowhard James Comer, along with his corrupt colleagues. Who have continually fabricated allegations against President Biden with no evidence or facts to support their false accusations of wrongdoing.
The audacity of Comer to say that they won’t give “special treatment” to Hunter “because his last name is Biden”. When the truth is the only reason these kangaroo court proceedings exist, is due to the Biden name being that of the current President. The cast of characters who have testified before the House Committee have included: Chinese Spies, felons, and disgruntled IRS employees who have yet to provide actual proof that the President had any ties to his son’s business dealings. The only thing that has come to light through these sham hearings is that the President has been a loving and supportive father to a son dealing with addiction issues.
Republicans have repeatedly used closed-door meetings instead of public appearances so they can spin the narrative to fit their agenda. After each private session, the Republicans rush to give interviews with the media. With the intent to distort the truth to shape the public perception of the testimony given. Of course, the networks trip over each other to be the first to report what the latest Republican rhetoric is, instead of checking the accuracy of their statements. It’s a vicious cycle that sways public opinion with no regard for facts or the truth.
So it’s refreshing to hear Hunter Biden deny the Republicans the same opportunity to manipulate his testimony and use it to attack his family’s credibility. Publicly calling them out for their dishonest methods just might help the masses understand how they’ve been duped into believing that the President has been implicated in illegal activities. When none of the evidence obtained by Republicans has corroborated their claims.
This whole charade has been orchestrated to muddy the waters, so Donald Trump can have a false equivalent to distract from his criminal misdeeds. If the public thinks that both candidates for the presidency in 2024 are corrupt, then it’s a choice between the lesser of two evils. Sadly, the media has been complicit in pushing this nonsense and has not done enough to distinguish between reality and disinformation. Creating a toss-up between the two candidates, when Biden should have a commanding lead if the electorate had all the unfiltered facts reported. It’ll take more statements like the one Hunter Biden made today to convince voters that there are two sides to this story. What the Republicans have said about the ongoing situation and the truth.
