(Meidas Touch Network)– “Senate Republicans blocked a procedural mechanism to move forward a bill that would have protected access to contraception for women across America. The final vote was 51-39, which came up short of 60 votes needed to break the filibuster, as Republicans voted to sink the bill.
Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski voted with Democrats in for the bill. Democratic Majority Leader Sen. Schumer changed his vote to “no” for procedural reasons so he can bring up the bill again in the future. For months, Republicans have been trying to persuade the public that they support protecting access to contraception for women in America. But, today’s vote tells a completely different story.”

(CEO)—It makes me furious when I hear Republicans like Senator Tim “Uncle Tom” Scott lie to the American public with a huge smile on his face. Accusing Democrats of politicizing the issue of codifying the right to contraception into law. If anyone is politicizing this matter it’s Republicans, by refusing to vote in favor of something that 88% of Americans believe should be a right. The GOP, not the Democrats are the ones purposefully complicating an issue that should be a no-brainer.

I certainly don’t think women in this country deserve to be talked down to by Republicans. So that misleading grin on Scott’s face doesn’t erase that the right-wing misogynistic agenda is unpopular. Telling women they should accept being treated as second-class citizens in their version of America. It’s hard enough in this day and age to get 88% of the country to agree on the existence of the moon. So for nearly all Senate Republicans to disagree with virtually the entire population. This scenario exposes the GOP, as the party, on the wrong side of history again. No amount of condescending MAGA rhetoric can change that fact into fiction no matter how hard they try.

It’s frightening when the commonality between the American Religious Right and the Afghani Taliban is increasing by the day. At the current rate of Christian Nationalism influencing Republican policy. I never before imagined women being forced to wear veils over their heads in this country. But I also struggle to comprehend the US is a nation where abortion is now illegal. As harsh as that example may seem. It’s comparable to the extreme measures proposed by Red State lawmakers. A database tracking pregnant women isn’t some dystopian nightmare anymore it’s an existing Republican proposal.

Republicans can publicly deny opposing backsliding legislation all they want. But their voting record tells the real story minus all the patronizing political spin distorting reality. If they plan on stripping women, minorities, and LGTBQ+ communities of their freedoms. At least have the courage to own up to the hypocrisy. Stop labeling your movement as “Pro-Life”. Because from the perspective of the vast majority of Americans. The GOP is jeopardizing the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of unsuspecting citizens. When the US has the highest rate of maternal deaths among the wealthiest nations. All of these potential victims, are entitled to the “Establishment Clause” found in the First Amendment of the US Constitution. Although the phrase “Separation of Church and State” never appears. It does declare “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”. Making Democrats the sole political party currently abiding by the Constitutional rules of our democracy.
